Need a pep talk. Disheartened by Disco parts lately.
I've been getting really frustrated with Disco ownership these last few weeks. It's nothing inherently wrong with the Disco, its more the ecosystem of suppliers we have, or don't have... In the last year, between two Discos, I've had three bad airtex water pumps, a DOA OEM power steering pump, failed OEM LR coolant hose clamps, NLA 2004 taillights, etc. So many terrible quality parts that aren't even the cheap-y parts. I'm buying the most expensive parts any of the retailers offer, hoping to get the best quality, but still getting garbage.
I'm so tired of replacing water pumps. This week will be my fourth installation of one in the last two years.
Are these just too impractical to own as daily drivers? I love them so much. They're so practical. But parts availability is becoming an issue and so is parts quality. The consequence of these part issues is also the time these discos have to sit and wait for delivery. Totally sucks. The 2002 has been in the driveway for three weeks now. A week for the first PAS pump to arrive. A week to finally get around to installing it - only to find out its bad - and another for the new one. It's exhausting.
Getting a new car isn't the solution. My RRS has been laid up in the dealer's shop for stupid warranty issues just as often it seems.
I'm just frustrated with broken transportation.

Hose Clamp wise = Stainless Steel ones from your local hardware store! Anything else is a waste of time IMHO. All parts NO MATTER who you buy it from chances are = China. Only difference will be the box, the name, and how the company warranties it. I drive my rusty XD the most here lately all over TX and she's done great. Only 2 issues in nearly 4 years and both were easy to fix.

when they claim "land rover" part often times the only difference is in the quality control not the mfg'r
gets a second quality control with less likely chance of fail but same material and mfg. process
parts suppliers will source cheapest part to make most money and that is usually china or india
