No clue on this one folks...any help would be appreciated. Here is the info.
Drove the truck to the ski area this morning, no issues and all normal. I go to start it up like 5 hours later and she sounds like a diesel truck. Looked under the hood and nothing seemed out of place. Started it again and the same thing. I went to pull it out so I could get a better look as it was parked in mud and snow. The brakes were not boosted and very hard to push.
Other factors:
Temps running normal
No codes on the Ultra Guage
No engine or other lights
140K, 2000 D2
Oil changed 500 miles ago (T6 and an M1 301 Filter)
No fluids leaking
No smoke or steam out tailpipe
Never overheated
Head gaskets/timing done 40K ago
Not losing coolant

The lack of vacuum/boost for brakes has got me stumped with this one. I was thinking maybe the exhaust gasket, but have no idea what to look for on that, and no idea why it would just go like that.
Anything I could check would be highly appreciated folks.

 

Thats a crap oil filter for one.
Sounds like your brake vacuum booster is bad or there is a vacuum leak.

No, not really, all it would do it either make it run really rough, idle really high, make a whistle sound or not run at all.

 

Definitely sounds vacuum related. The no power assist brakes mixed with a rough idle are a dead give away. Sort though the vacuum lines - check for cracks or unhooked lines at or around the booster. The leak should be large and rather audible to ear while the engine is running.

I would double check for codes. Maybe you turned the engine off before it had time to register a fault.

 

The vacuum line goes into the manifold and is held in by a red clip.
Carefully remove the red clip.
Remove the brake vacuum line.
Plug the hole with a little bolt and see if it runs that way.

Odd that changes were made to the rover when you were skiing.
Who else has the other key fob?

 

I know there is a vacuum issue, just didn't think it would cause such a loud diesel sound. No codes at all. Ran it a few times now and gauge is always plugged in. No engine light either. Been checking the hoses....nothing I see so far.

 

Really don't want to break that red piece on the vac line but doesn't want to budge easy and no specific info in rave. Can't make heads or tails fom the arrows and markings on it. Any tips?

Edit: got that hose out. Push/pull. Duh. Tired.

 

Next question. What would a dropped liner sound like or do? Cause a vacuum issue somehow? Just so darn loud. Seriously sounds like an old school bus. I think I traced all vacuum lines and nothing looks bad, and for sure not bad enough to make this racket.
