Need some insight
Hey all,
I'm new to the world of Land Rover and am contemplating purchasing an '01 Discovery SE7. It started right up and it drove real well. It has just over 101k miles and the interior/exterior is absolutely flawless. They are asking $6500 (which seems about avg. for that year and condition around here)
The brakes did seem a little soft, I don't know if that is just the pads or if there is some other underlying problem.
I am looking for any information you guys might have about this model and year. Is there anything I should be looking for that would tip me off to any signs of underlying problems? I hear a lot of good and bad about Land Rovers but not from anyone who has actually owned one. I figure the best people to ask would be those who know them best. Thanks for all your help.

The soft brakes is usually just worn out brake fluid.
LR recommendeds a brake fluid flush every 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever is sooner.

Price seems high, by a couple thousand. Ask if they had the driveshaft rebuilt if no you will have to. If it was maintained properly and you ant it go for it. If they had the head gaskets done already that would be a plus because you are right about at the point where they would go.
When you go see the truck show up early and look under it for fluid leaks in case they move it to hide a leak.

Thank you. I will show up early and check out the ground underneath. I checked it today and it's been in the same spot since monday. It is a small dealership so they don't know much about the history (it came from an auction...according to them) I am going to do a carfax history but, even they aren't flawless. Thanks again for the help.
