Default Need some insight and advice

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for reading this. I'm currently looking into purchasing a 05 LR3 SE W/Nav with 38,890 on it. The sale price currently is $23,995.Is this a decent deal? What has your experience been with reliability on these Rovers? The balance of the factory 5 year or 50K warranty remains...is this a bumper to bumper or basic warranty?

Any honest reviews of what kind ofauto i'mgetting myself into?

Thanks!!

That sounds like a really good price. I would spend 3K and get the extended warranty, you are getting a great deal, and it could really pay off in the future. Lets put it this way, it WILL pay off in the future.
I say do it. Doooo it.

I agree with Mr. Krisztian, that sounds like a really great price! Do your homework and buy a full CarFax history report. And if your worried about repairs, buy the Land Rover extended warranty until 100K like we did and have no worries.

I also highly recommend ditching the dangerous Goodyear Wrangler HP's if equipped, and going with a 285/60/18 tire like the Cooper Zeon LTZ's. That is the best upgrade I have done.

Thanks for your advice!

So I'm kind of getting the feeling your unsure about how reliable the LR3 is so the extended warranty is necessary... When I think about adding 3K (for warranty) on to the price of 24K I might be better off with a certifed MDX or XC90. Though I would rather drive the LR3. Tough Choice...

For what its worth the MDX and XC90 are crap compared to an LR3.

Not sure you would have been able to get the extended warranty from LR either. I bought one for mine Monday and the manager said that LR had instituted a policy that you had to have 12 months and 12,000 miles left on the original warranty.

Also, he quoted prices out of the LR book closer to 4k than 3k, but it is definitely worth it.

Keep your eyes open, as more opportunities will come up for 2005's coming off leases. I have 62k miles on mine, and plan to keep it for awhile. I do highly recommend the Cooper Zeon LTZ's from America's Tire. Mine still look new after 10k miles and lots of offroad. Had them in the snow Monday and was very impressed and comfortable with them.

By all means, get the extended warranty. I have had the front windshield replaced on my extended, the ambient air temp sensor, a couple of height sensors among other things, which by my math, the extended warranty has paid for itself. Non-warranty service on LR's is very expensive, unless you find a local service tech, of which there are not a lot of who are familiar enough and trained in the new generation LR's.

Now...speaking of the MDX and the XC90...do you want a true OFF Road vehicle, or just a poser. The LR3 will dance circles around those offroad. If you just want a car to drive to the snow...then go ahead.

For what it's worth....

I agree, the extended warranty pays for itself. Good investment if you are serious about keeping the LR3 or any other LR/RR. Protects your investment and adds solid resale value.

I also have the Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/60/18 and what a great upgrade. Better looking tire size for the LR3, makes the LR3 look more true to size and proportion, 2 inches more ground clearance, very quiet ride for an agressive tire, damn near climbs anything with these tires. Night and day difference from the dangerous, overpriced GoodYear Wrangler HP OEM tires.

All of the Land Rover/Range Rover vehichles are in a class by themselves. I have owned/rented and driven just about every SUV made, except MBZ, and nothing has compared to my satisfaction of owning an LR3. I was originally considering the Range Rover HSE or Range Rover Sport but opted for the LR3 instead for the 3rd row seat and more room/better off road capability. Land Rover is a company that makes ONLY world class SUV's, not a car company adding an SUV to round out its product lineup. The queen of England drives only Land Rovers and has a fleet of them in the Royal Motorcade.

The choice was easy for me and I can safely say a Land Rover will always occupy a spot in my garage. My Wife likes my LR3 so much I am having to buy her a new 08 LR2.

Land Rover is an off road vehicle. The MDX and XC90 would get eaten for breakfast by an LR3. Do you plan on taking your Rover off the pavement? Do you frequent the mountains, deserts? Do some thinking, and identify what your needs are.
SUV's are madefor pavement and light snowy roads. Rovers are made for where no man hasgone before.
