New '03 Disco, what do I need?
Hi all, new to the forum here, and also new to LR's. Just picked up a '03 Disco SE with 102K miles. Has has some work done to it before, so I guess I will ask of you LR junkies out there, what, if anything do I need to do to my truck to keep her going.
Past work:
Replaced both wheel hub assemblies at 67K
Axle Seals 67K
ABS pump assembly w/ control unit 67K
Front drive shaft 89K
U-Joints 89K
ABS Pump 89K
Tranny 89K
Current issues:
Slight vibration while under power (U-Joints ??)
Slight ticking from right side of engine (Sounds like exaust leak, possible lifter)
Leaks water at passenger A-Piller (Read post about sealing it up)
Leaks water into headlights (??????)
Other that, seems to be solid. The guy I bought it from just switched to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.....good or bad??? Anything else I am missing? Thanks in advance guys....and gals.

I'm sure you've heard by now that 03's had a oil failure issue. With 102K on the odometer you should be ok. My understanding is that they generally fail between 40-50K. Check your front driveshaft and make sure it has grease fittings on the u-joints. If not have it rebuilt with greasable u-joint immediately. That's all I can think of right now but I'm sure someone with a D2 that knows more than me will chime in. Those D2 guys tend to be mouthy. LOL.
Stay with the Mobil 1.
The transmission was replaced because the front driveshaft failed.
Water in the headlights is commong for '03's. Bad seals or clogged vent.
You MUST use premium gas.
Other than that you should be good.

You might try to drill weep holes in bottom of the headlamps. I have had to do this in my bronco to let the water drain after a rain or a bath. I would also stay with the mobil 1.
Update:
So I take it to the Land Rover dealer. They say the vibration is coming from a bent front output shaft, and that the ticking is from leaking head gaskets. They also said my timing chain cover seal is leaking and that I have a downpipe exhaust leak. They quote me,,,,are you ready....$3,600!!! ya right. I promptly went to get a second opinion and took it to Cottman Transmission. They quickly deduced that the vibration was coming from an out of balance front drive shaft, so they took the front and rear dirveshafts out andhad them both balanced, there was still a slight vibration so they took the output yoke off and replaced that. The ticking noise was a exhaust manifold leak, fixed that. Total cost was $400. Better believe this LR Dealership will receive a letter from me about this mis-diagnosis. Runs like a dream now....

Well that's why we call them the stealership. Try looking for an indy Rover shop around you too. If all that repair work for the driveshaft/tranny etc was performed at the dealer they may not have used a front drive shaft with serviceable u-joints in the double cardon (the end at the t-case). You should crawl underneath an take a look for yourself to verify if you have 4 zerks (1 at the front, 1 for the slip joint, and 2 in the DC).
