I'm still confused as to why you are working on this when it came back from a shop who was supposed to do work on it and immediately upon getting it back it doesn't run properly.

Again, I live in NC and the truck broke down in TX. I had it fixed at a shop in Houston that came highly recomended by the local club. In the process of rebuilding the heads instead of replacing the cam and lifters with stock I did an upgrade to a more agressive cam. I had to fly to Houston anyway for business so I went ahead and picked up the truck. I was in town for a couple days and took it back to find out the cause for the check engine lights- they pointed thier fingers at the cam. Since I had to be back in NC and it would have cost $1300 for a last minute ticket home plus a future ticket to come back and pick it up/ I went ahead and took the truck and drove it home to NC. Even if I have to take it to a stealership to be fixed I think it wont offset the $2K I would have lost by taking it back to the shop.

Default curious about your more aggressive cam?

what kind of cam did you put in? How aggressive is it?

4.6?
Piper?
Crane?

Maybe, maybe not related to your codes.... but did you also replace the pushrods? What about your rockers and rocker shafts?

I replaced the Cam, Lifters. According to the shop the measured each of the push rods and replaced any that were to worn (I got charged for six replacements on the bill) The company that ground the cam for me was The Wedge Shop. They call it the Erson Rover Cam kit.

Update: I replaced the MAF with a OEM unit from AB. I also picked up O2 sensors but have not put them in. I had a mechanic smoke the intake and he found a leaky valley pan gasket. I went ahead and had him replaced the valley and upper gasket. After driveing about 100 miles I am still getting 1171 and P1174 codes. The shop is going to smoke it again and see if there is another leak. And I am going to go ahead and put the new O2 sensors in this weekend. You guys have any other idea what is going on? As of last week my registration is out and I need to get this fixed soon cause I need a ride...

I am starting to think the same thing. I really don't want to swap out the cams, the ride has a ton more power and better mileage as it sits.

Is there anyone that can do a ECU performance upgrade that will allow the computer not to pop an error with the modifications?

Would it be possible to move to a slightly larger injector to supply more fuel? My thoughts is with the increase fuel metering the O2 levels would go back to normal.

A person with a test book can re-map the injectors to richen them up, just need to find someone who knows his way around the old test book.
By the way, have you ever replaced your fuel pump? Yours has to be running lower on pressure, might consider an AirTex E-3270 for a boost in fuel pressure for around $80.

Mike,

I have a couple questions about the pump.

Do you really need the special tool to remove the retainer plate for the fuel pump?

It that a direct replacement fuel pump or will I need to modify anything?

Do I need to replace the pressure regulator while I am working on it.

I believe the fuel rail pressure should be 50lbs. Would I need to increase the pressure or just increase the spray time?
