any specific suggestions on the oil?

@ttownthomas That one is tough, Castrol GTX ultra clean or something similar the problem with castrol is it is a 5/30. Just avoid engine flushes, they can do more harm than good.

I think he's talking about just using a detergent type oil to transport the gunk out before you go to the Rotella.

Thats a good idea but I was thinking as cheap as Rotella is might as well use that.

Richard, I believe also used a cheap oil filter for the first hundred miles and tossed that as well.

@Dave03S I used 10/30 dino and cheap and believe me fram are cheap oil filter for 200 miles, but my concern was contamination from block cleaning and that oil came out pretty clean.

I am running Mobil 1 10/30 synthetic right now, based on some wear prevention and temp breakdown info I read. So far that seems to be working really well.

Given what oil to use long term seems to be just voodoo, I want to see if the reduces varnish and sludge buildup

Nice find! Beautiful interior! I would degrease the underside completely that way you can pinpoint the leaks. I thought I had an oil leak on mine but after I cleaned it up real good, I found it was power steering leaking. Good luck!

For everyone in this thread, I would recommend switching to 15w40 diesel motor. It has more zinc anti-wear additives than typical modern gas engine motor oil (the zinc has been phased out of gas engine oil due to emmissions) which helps with the bearing, tappet, and ring wear. It also has a high detergent additive package designed to help suspend the particles in the oil so the filter catches them, diesels produce more combustion soot than gas engines and need the extra help. Finally the viscosity will help oil pressure and reduce bearing wear. If you live in the northern sub zero winter states, you may need to swtich to 5w40 in the winter, but south of Ohio that is not really needed.

Running 15/40 rotella T without issue through this mild winter. It's my daily driver most of the week. Shell makes a syn Rotella, I have not tried it yet.

Nice, I think we were talking about a disposable oil to run for 100 or 200 miles to clean out his engine and then replace with something like Rotella 15w40.

Good oil, very expensive relative to the diesel oil, and does not typically have a high detergent package as racing engines typically do not see a lot miles between oil changes.
