Default New Discovery owner - Front Drive Shaft

Changed the alternator and broke the vacuum tube from the brake boost in the process. Jerry rigged it but will need to pick up a new vacuum tube this week.

I have a vibration btw 50 and 70 mph. So i want to tackle the drive shaft asap.

I'm a little confused about which front drive shaft to get. What do you guys think about these? Cost a bit less than Tom Wood but more importantly will get to me in DC faster.

I was quoted $225 today, by a driveline company, to replace the 3 u joints, the centering ball, and balance the shaft. I have to remove and replace the shaft of course. Sounds like a fair price to me.

I was going through the same thing, had a vibration between 45-50 and 70-75... Finally gave in and bought a Tom Woods double cardan from Lucky8, got it in like 2-3 days. I pulled the stock shaft and installed the new one in less than 30 minutes. All the vibration is gone and it just seems like it drives a hell of a lot better. Btw the TW shaft was $388 shipped.

I think you'll like the TW shaft, it's a nice unit.

I got mine from Dynamic Driveline. Paid 295 I think. Fully serviceable including center ball using Neapco parts. I know a few others have them as well and no issues that I have heard. I didn't have time to do the work myself so paid the extra to get one already done. Funny thing is the one I took off the car was fully servicible but I couldn't get grease to pump through it and didn't want to chance it.

To add, I got my dynamic one on eBay but don't see anymore for sale there but they do have their number on google.

The other option is just rebuilding you own: https://landroverforums.com/forum/ge...02/#post164811

I opted for the Lucky8 driveshaft. Should be here by the end of next week. I spoke with Justin and he really seems very knowledgeable and interested in taking care of his customers.

Rebuild isn't too difficult at all if you have the time, mine finally let go right in front of the house this weekend. I already had the parts laying around to install for "Preventative maintenance" upon disassembly I realized one cap had no needle bearings and the opposite cap was filled with mangled bits of what was left of its needle bearings plus cracked cap. Hardest part is pulling center ball and alignment of parts upon assembly when dealing with the centering ball joint. I ended up just throwing the cross in there and tapping caps in while holding it together in alignment with my hand, all is well.
