Default New engine...

I've got an 02 kalahari. 140k, cracked cylinder head! Should I replace with an original 4.0 or try going tdi? I'm in Oregon love this truck and need some advice...

Understand you don't have the emmissions restrictions to deal with (Score!), but you'll still have all the electrical problems to resolve going with a TDI. Just not worth it IMO (Diesel is more than Premium where I'm an, so it's kind of a wash anyway).

Electrical issues has been my main worry, I can find the 200 and 300 tdi's but am having trouble locating the 4.0 with lower miles and in decent shape. I've also been pondering doing the chevy swap... Decisions decisions lots of work ahead but it's nice to hear imput from folks who have done similar.

if you do a chevy swap, you have to deal with electronics. IMO I would go: Rebuilt performance 4.0>tdi>chevy

So, why don't you give us a little background for your Rover---how was
damage done to engine, and when, if you know? How do you know you have a cracked head, what did you do to determine that? I seriously doubt if you do, but rather suspect that you more likely have a cracked block, behind one or more cylinder liners, where it happens most of the time.

You sound like a dick. He asked a question, at least answer his question. Don't answer his question with another/more question(s).

I say, again, go with the 4.0, keep your special edition Kalahari truck original.

I've been smelling oil for a few months. Last week she overheated. Took it to a buddy who works on these to find coolant in cylinders. Block has a crack behind the piston liners. Pretty much a blown engine. Threw some block seal in her and start her every few days. Been in my garage since. Performance 4.0 sounds pretty neat I'm not looking to spend over 6-7 g's help me out!!

If you doing a rebuild, do it yourself. Find a used block and do it, If not, your looking to spend a lot green.
