new engine coolant

new engine coolant
Can anyone recommend a different coolant, other than the factory recommended, for my Discovery? I drive from MS to NC fairly regularly and also take the truck off road frequently.
I ask because my truck is running in the upper normals at rest and can raise border on the red after a long drive but cools during movement. My fan is working and all the hoses are solid.

RE: new engine coolant
Well the coolant is not the problem for this.
I use Peak Global Lifetime 50/50 premixed.
Is your coolant level full?
If so look into your water pump or a dirty/clogged radiator.
Here is where I would start, do a complete cooling system flush.
If that does not fix it then replace your water pump.

on top of that, pop off the clips holding the radiator. If you have never done this, I'll bet you have some junk between the rad & conderser.
Check your water pump pulley/back of the belt for glazing. Might be failing bearing in the water pump or tensioner going bad.
Don't run it to the red, or you may pop the engine. Aluminum doesn't like heat.

I've heard from a reputable source (Disco Mike) that if your temp sensor gets ANYWHERE near red its almost too late. He says the temp sensor is slow to give accurate reading and that if its near red, it has been TOO HOT, TOO LONG and there's a good chance you're toast
if its EVER above normal....its IMPORTANT to check water pump, coolant level, etc...
... so bottom line, after your temp is back to normal...check your oil for coolant, and check head gaskets.
