Default New Engine for DII

There is a 2004 Disco II with a overheated engine.(112k miles) They are asking $4500 for the car.

How much should someone pay for the car?
How much does a new engine cost?

You can get a quality used engine for about 3,250 at roverlandparts.com when they are in stock (http://www.roverlandparts.com/2003-2...y41kmiles.aspx)

Thats just a general price, you can get them for a little more, or a little less if you do your research at other companies. I don't know what BRAND new engines go for, but sometimes a good rebuilt or used is just as good.

As for the price of the 04'... I wouldnt pay more than $3,000 for a 2004 that doesnt run.
If you can get it for that, and bring it back to life for under 5K, your walking away with a pretty good deal for a vehicle that usually goes for 10K+ with that kind of mileage.

how mechanical are you?

im with Cam, if you can score it for $3k and plop a new engine in yourself its worth it. Otherwise get a 98 or 99 D1.

Default cam is right..

Cam is right ..tell him $3k and you are doing him a favor. tell him you can get a running one for $5,500.00. Explain when they overheat they are gone... Give him a story. Then go put in a tdi 300 diesel and you would be ahead of the game...

Good '04 used engines are scarce, depending on what is wrong with the engine you could look at AB for a shortblock $4,500 or a rebuilt engine from someone.

the 03 and 04 had a 4.6. DO NOT put and engine from an 03 in. Check the VIN of the donor truck
