You can get a quality used engine for about 3,250 at roverlandparts.com when they are in stock (http://www.roverlandparts.com/2003-2...y41kmiles.aspx)
Thats just a general price, you can get them for a little more, or a little less if you do your research at other companies. I don't know what BRAND new engines go for, but sometimes a good rebuilt or used is just as good.
As for the price of the 04'... I wouldnt pay more than $3,000 for a 2004 that doesnt run.
If you can get it for that, and bring it back to life for under 5K, your walking away with a pretty good deal for a vehicle that usually goes for 10K+ with that kind of mileage.

cam is right..
Cam is right ..tell him $3k and you are doing him a favor. tell him you can get a running one for $5,500.00. Explain when they overheat they are gone... Give him a story. Then go put in a tdi 300 diesel and you would be ahead of the game...
