Well it took much longer than expected to get this product launched but it is finally here, our new Dual Electric Radiator Fan Installation Kit. TBH it was all the videos, photos, blog post and associated content that took so long, the kit engineering has been done going on 1+ years now. Anyway, I know I told a lot of people over the last several months (year?) "soon, very soon" but it is now here. I will put all the links down below of course. First, some background. So I implemented dual electric radiator fans on my first D2 back in 2014 after my factor fan exploded and have been running it ever since. Worked great, and because I have had and driven dozens of D2's I noticed this was the only one that could sit in traffic for long periods without watching the temperature gauge climb. Anyway, fast forward several years and it made it to the list of improvements I wanted to share with the community. Took a year or so of development to make it in to a plug and play kit that would be easy to install, then another several months for all the videos (I have had a A LOT going on). Will create a faq's section as I get questions but for now post them here. So here are the basics:
Kit includes wiring harness, fuse panel, mounting brackets, and foam needed for installation
Kit is designed to work with a 1989-1994 Nissan Maxima fan that flows 70% more air than the engine driven fan and 41% more than the Ford Fusion fan discussed on the forum.
Can be easily used with customers choice of fan controller, although my favorite is the Davies Craig DC 0500
Along the way I decided I wanted a nice looking gauge pod to put my fan controller/gauge in so I made some of those two, also in the links.
There is a ton more details that are explained in all the videos and written blog as well as the product pages and instructions, so lets get to it.
I saw this on your website yesterday and had to bite my tongue to ask a few of my dozens of questions.
I see you mentioned a ~1 mpg improvement (with stock tires), and regained 5-10hp. Has the increase in performance been noticeable? Also was this with the 4.0 or 4.6 engine? As always, absolutely amazing work!
how much would potentially need to be changed to run on a classic or D1?
Of course if I see enough demand I will make a custom kit, but most of the kit would be usable except I think the radiator mounting brackets. I have not checked the size of the D1 or Classic radiator relative to the D2, the Maxima fan is almost ideally sized for the D2 so the fit might be off a bit for a D1 or Classic. So lets look at worst case:
1. Fuse panel mounting bracket is not an ideal fit, mod it to fit somewhere else or just mount the panel and relays to a different bracket
2. Fan mounting brackets do not work - fam new fan mounting brackets.
2. Maxima fans not a good fit to the radiator - either cut the maxima fan shroud to fit, or mount the fans to a different shroud. Plug and play wiring should still work. Or, to use different electric fans just cut the connectors ends off and wire them to your choice of fans.
Also, have not checked the fit of the gauge pod to the D1 or classic binnacle but I have a more straight up pod that would work for both of those (on the left).

I personally don't believe the performance increase is noticeable, I can't tell the difference between a 4.6 and a 4.0 truck and there is supposed to be 29 hp difference (maybe it all that time in the seat of actual fast cars - my Camaro runs deep in the 12's in the quarter). The noise and fuel economy is the most noticeable difference beside the temperature stability.

Interesting. I could tell night and day difference between a 4.0 and 4.6 with 32"s on each. 1mpg increase= 25 miles per tank increase, so that's a huge win in my book.

yea need to check fan size - not worried about mounting of fuse panel as that's easy to solve. Rad size is definitely different but I haven't looked in a while.
In my case with a 95, the binnacle is the same as a D1 and should be similar in shape to a D2. Have a recommended controller option if we don't want to add a gauge?

There are literally dozens of different controllers, I do like the programmable ones from Davies Craig and Dakota Digital but there are a lot of others out there. I only experimented with one mechanical but the deadband was too big for my taste, it would stay on too long if I set it low enough to come one when I wanted.
As far as the gauge pod and binnacle, if you want to try one and test on a D1 or Classic I will be willing to discuss a beta tester arrangement to get some feedback and we can make a set to work with those trucks.
1) You recommend the DC 0500, but looks like it's a non-US supplier. Have you found a US based source?
2) What temperature settings do you recommend for the controller?
3) How important is having the monitoring capability? I don't quite understand whether that's a safety thing or if it was just a preference to allow for the manual switching. I assume the controllers that stay under the hood are simpler and cheaper.
I don't have knowledge of fan controllers like your kit seems to assume, so answers to these questions would make it much easier to make a purchase decision on the kit.
I found this fan controller, which looks like it does the job without the monitor: https://amzn.to/3PeOboS
