You do not have to remove the dash to get the heater core out.

I can tell you that it looks alot more intimidating that it actually is, just start it in the morning so you can take your time.
Took me 3 hours to do the heat core on my wifes Volvo which like the Rover has the heater behind the center dash.
Next time (there better not be) it should take way less than that.
