Default New Key FOB for D2 - Options to buy

My apologizes if this has been covered before, I feel sure it has, but I cannot located it. As fate would have it, my driver's door lock actuator failed shortly after I bought my used D2 some 6 years ago now. I finally got around to replacing it a couple months ago, and shortly after lost my last key fob. Luckily when I lost my first key fob I had two spare regular keys made to fit.

I would like to take advantage of the door actuator now, so I guess I will be biting the bullet to buy a new key fob and have it cut and programmed. What am I looking to pay at the dealer and are there any other options?

Just need to find someone with a programmer like hawkeye or nanom. Not 100% sure which ones actually do it
Sadly I have considered buying one of those just to do the same thing you're doing

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly you can only program a new keyfob with Hawkeye if you have in your possession at least one keyfob already programmed and working. It may be different with other programmers.

The Nanocom is easier to program a key fob replacement. All you need is the key code (6 digits/letters). I did it with a fob replacement which I purchased from Paul Grant. Here is an example of the Nanocom re-programming procedure:

I read somewhere the Hawkeye programming process is a little more complicated and needs the entire bar code key string.

So, where does one find this six-digit code? Obviously, it's supplied with a new key. But, is it printed on the circuit board inside the key by chance?

It is usually a small printed label which is pasted to the internal circuit board inside the key fob. You will have to make sure the label is still there when you buy a used fob from the seller. Here is a picture example:

Did a little quick searching, the first hurdle is matching the frequency and it seems there are two choices for the DII 315 mhz or 433 mhz. If you have a 433 then you are past the first step of the frequency match. Then it would be on to the programming.

Before you ask I have yet to find a way to tell short of opening a key and seeing if it is printed inside.

You ordered a nanocom right? If you did I guess it would just be a $50 gamble to be the guinea pig. If it works I'll be ordering a pair of them though.
