Default New to me 00 Disco II

Today, I picked up a well used - but in very nice shape - Disco II with about 110K mi on it, and am going to pick it up in a few weeks after some prep by the salesman's mechanic (who - hopefully won't make things worse). I plan to go through a once over on her when I pick her up, and am poking around the forum for things to look for. A lot to read! Thanks. From the history I have, she had head gaskets and brake pads replaced at 24K mi. (seems awfully early), and both driveshafts at 70K, serpentine belt at 78K and at 102K, brake master cylinder at 102K.
I have an 07 LR3 HSE, but am not as familiar with the earlier D2's.
I'll share photos when I pick her up. Have a bit of a drive to get her home... 'smiles'
Need to figure out how to make up a document I can keep with me with all the things noted in the forum to look for and to fix! Anybody tried to do that yet, and set up a PDF to keep on their iPad or something?? Share?? LOL

2000 is a great year for the Discovery. If you are lucky it’s got a locking CDL and all you have to do is install the linkage. The headlights will never deteriorate/turn yellow. It might not be equipped with SAI, which is good.

Good luck.

I use Microsoft OneNote, it’s free, available on all platforms, and synchs across all of your devices. I keep my maintenance checklist there along with a running set of “pages” dedicated to each project I am working (or plan to work on). Download the RAVE, electrical library, and circuit diagrams and then you can take screen shots and put them in your notebook pages where they are easy to find and cross reference. I often times need to flip back and forth between all 3 and having them all on the same screen is super useful. Also you can copy and paste links and insert those to make note of relevant forum posts.

I use the Notes app on my iPhone/iPad to log my Disco's maintenance actions completed/ in future work and a section for cross referencing part numbers. I also copy and pasted excerpts from LR forum members who contributed great info that I want to remember.

Since you will now own 2 land Rovers, I'd seriously invest in a Land Rover specific diagnostic tester like a Nanocom Evolution.
There are cheap in cost testers like a Foxwell NT520/NT530 that can do certain jobs very well but a Nanocom is the better option.

From your other post, it looks like you bought in Massachusetts and will be driving it to Arizona.
Most people would have done that the other way around. Watch for salt-related decay on the chassis.

I would recommend pre-emptively replacing all plastic cooling system components before one splits and causes and overheat and head gasket job. Hoses are less than $50, radiator about $80, coolant reservoir about $40. Cooling fan to prevent explosion and cutting of all other hoses. Bypass thermostat and pcv mod are the best mods you can do for reliability. Aluminum foil on the cps cover to prevent heat soak failure.

I mentioned a dedicated diagnostic tool in my pervious post but I'd add a coolant temperature/information monitor like an UltraGauge (wired) or their Blue bluetooth wireless models.
UltraGauge OBDII Scan tool & Information Center

Thanks. It spent 98% of its life in Texas. Dealer bought it at auction.

Thanks. Good list, and advise. But... I was hoping to do this kind of stuff AFTER I get it home. My hope is that it will do the drive with me just attacking all fluids first, and inspecting. Think I should ship it?

And @Juke179r, I have the diagnostics tool. Just need to bring it east.

It takes a brave and well prepared man to drive a D2 cross country...especially one that you really don't know the history on.
