Default New to me D2 SD

So, just picked up a 2001 D2 SD. 107k. I've been running around with a 93 RRC with a BMW M52 swapped into it, but wanted a totally OE Rover.

D2 had the headgaskets done about a year ago, I actually helped do them.

Thing runs great.

I'm assuming, being an SD, it's the most basic....no sunroofs, coil springs, etc.

It has a button for front fogs, but none installed. Would it be prudent to get OEM bumper mounted ones, or just go aftermarket...can get a set of Hella 6 3/8 lamps for $90 thru work, wire them into the stock wiring, if it's there. Rear fogs work.

Apparently there is a charging issue. Used the battery from my Classic to get it home and it wouldn't restart right away....dome lamps were dim when I cut it off.

Brakes are a bit mushy.....figure I'll just have to bleed them. No 3 amigos, yet....

Had to top off the coolant.....well....pretty much fill it. Temp needle didn't go any higher than 1/2....and that was with driving it about 10 miles...and I did take it for a ride though some fields just because. Guess I'll try bleeding it....and pressure test, we'll see.

Then I'll probably take the CDL linkage from my Classic (LT230 swapped) and put it on this truck.

I'll have to get some pictures, but it's pretty much a normal, $650 Blue/beige D2....

Only 650!? Awesome. I know my head gaskets are inevitable at some point (99 with 83k). Where are you located?

Yup, friend bought it for $500 with coolant pissing out of the front of the headgasket. He basically said I don't drive it, I know you want it.....here's what I have in it.

I'm in and around Charlottesville Va. Live over in the Shenandoah Valley.

So, charged up the battery last night. Running, it's reading around 11.75v at the battery. Even when revved ~2k it never even hits 12v.

I can't seem to find a voltage regulator (1 197 311 549) for it....but I can get a brush set....granted for a BMW....through work for $16. Figured I'd try that, unless there is something else I'm not aware of going on.

Also eyeballing an Ultragauge.....seems like a good investment for this vehicle....

Sounds like the battery is somewhat sulfated if you can't boost it over 12v.

I'd look into replacing that battery before I looked at the alternator.

Congrats on the D2, Ultra gauge is a must have IMO. Do not trust the temp gauge in the cluster, its a born liar.

Ya, I'm going to order one before I start driving it. Still haven't had time to get all the DMV hurry up and waiting out of the way.

Battery has been holding steady the past couple of days....so I guess this weekend I'll pull the alternator and see what we can see.

Anywho, here's a couple of pics. Morning sun was coming up, so lighting isn't the best....but it's pretty much just a bone stock blue D2 SD. My favorite part is no sunroofs. I seem to be a collector of slicktop cars....my 330, 535iT, and my 91 318 all have no sunroofs..and now the D2.

Alright! I removed the alternator.....and in the course of doing so noticed that the charging cable and the other wire were loose. I checked the voltage regulator and it looked worn, but all reassembled....charging at 14v at idle. Small victories.

Regarding the soft brakes.

I can pump the brakes up, 2 pumps and it's a nice, firm pedal, otherwise, mush. Eyeballing flushing and bleeding the fluid, BUT....on the intake the little red clip that holds the booster line in is missing, and it has been secured with silicon. This isn't a check valve of sorts is it?

Ordering one anyways, but in the meantime....would like to know.
