Default New to me Disco with some questions (videos attached)

Hey guys

Just bought a 01 Disco and have a few questions

I have the 3 amigos but haven't ran the codes yet. Will the advanced auto part code readers you can borrow read a Disco ECU?

I also have these weird things I ran across.

1) Stray wire and plug...

2) Weird adapter on heater hose...

The wire coming through the grommet is probably some sort of accessory, removed. The other plug is for ABS sensor and should attach to harness in wheel well, which is attached to ABS sensor at hub/wheel.

The coolant bleeder fitting is not factory, hard to say why it was installed. Buy new hoses and remove.

I have a 2001. I'm not sure about the first video. Wondering if the second was a way to bypass or divert from the heater core? I don't have that on mine

Before getting rid of the thing in the second video, put newspaper down on your floor passenger and drivers side.

Start the Disco, heat on full and let it warm up if you have heat and no water after say 15 minutes I would say good to get rid of it.

If you have no heat open that thing up and watch for water, it strikes me as something a person would do with a leaky heater core rather the fix the problem.

And 3 amigos are at least partly most likely, related to that disconnected ABS wheel sensor

It could have the ABS sensors that run all the way back to the SLABS unit. If thats the case you’d more than likely have 3 more ABS sensor wires unplugged.

I forget about that option, mostly because I would never do it

I have seen the direct wire to the ABS sensors before, it was done by dealer techs when they encountered issues with the plugs. I noticed it because I had several that were very long (from the rear wheels) all the way to the SLABS with no connection. That is also likely the cause of your three amigos. You will need to validate the wiring from the factory plug back to the BCU is in good condition. You can likely get a replacement from one of the part sellers if you need it.

The heater valve could have been placed there to prevent the leakage as Richard said, although I kind of doubt it because just one valve would prevent circulation but not leakage due to pressure. The PO probably put it there to prevent circulation to improve the AC efficiency, are you in a hot climate? I have considered doing a similar thing on my Rover to prevent hot coolant in the passenger compartment in the summer (you kind of have to live in the very hot south to understand). I wound up short circuiting my heater hoses during the some one year. I kind of like it actually, I would leave it if it is not causing problems, although you should do the test Richard suggested.
