Default New member, 03-04 discovery price question

Hey everyone, new member from B-ham Alabama. I've always loved Landrovers and since my 89 BMW 535 has been totaled (no fault of mine) I'm ready to get back in an suv. Def have my heart set on a 03-04 (dig the face lift). Anyway to the question, I've been doing a bit of research but I'm curious what you guys think is a fair price for an 03-04 disco 90-120k miles, upper end of good condition with some documentation of service (major things already sorted)? Thanks.

I would say about $5-6k if head gaskets are done, new drive shaft, and no major issues. If you want to use it for trail riding, get an 04 as 03s do not have a locking differential which can make a big difference on the trails.

I also live in Birmingham - hit me up when you pick one up and we can get together and compare notes.

For what its worth, I just picked up a really clean 2001 Disco with 80k miles and no issues (here locally in Bham) for $4,500. Previous owner kept it nice, and paid for top shelf service.

When you do find one, I would recommend Duffy's Garage in Southside (Near Regions Field) for maintenance. They do nothing but Land Rovers all day at WAY better prices than the dealership. Nice bunch of guys as well - they are straight off-the-boat Brits.

Good luck in your quest for a nice Rover!

Austin if it was black I'd def be interested, love the tan on black interior (my 535 had the same). Either want black exterior with that interior or the dark grey with black interior, (leaning towards the grey) beautiful disco though. I actually have family in austin too, uncle owns a real estate/ prop management company there (Martine Properties). Grandfather used to be Dean of TX tech too, haha.

"vibrolucky", (awesome f'ing name btw, has to be a story behind that LOL!) seems to be quite a few nice discos in the area for decent prices. Must be all the old money. We just moved here about a year ago from memphis, before that all over the U.S. (navy brat), loving it so far though. The people are an improvement and lots of outdoorsie stuff to do. We'll def have to get together when I scoop one up, just out of curiosity what kind of gas mileage are you getting around here? Thanks for the recommendation as well (are they enthusiasts?), I'm a ex GM tech so hopefully I'll be able to handle most things that come up as this will be my DD for my whole 1.8 mile trek to work (yes it's awesome, haha). But it's always good to know a reputable shop for diag. problems and things I don't feel like doing or have time for. Anyway back to drinking, Cheers!!

Johnny -- good luck with your search. Black shouldn't be too hard to find -- all the service loaners (in Austin, at least) were black discoveries and if that was a corporate standard there should be a bunch of them out there.

I just picked up my 03 about a month ago for $4200. 114k Just had the head gaskets done, the 120k service done, updated front driveline and suprisingly only one leak (on the rear diff). The only thing wrong when i bought it were 2 door locks were out (I've fixed one) and the 3 amigos comes on once in a blue moon. Hopefully that helps and good luck with the search!
