As long as your wife is open to spending some money on the rig you are good!!! But you most likely do not need a new engine.. But maybe a new battery and a new battery in the remote.
Do the stuff mentioned above...
Then I would invest in replacing the cooling system. All hoses, belts, etc. even the overflow bottle and possibly the radiator, but you don't need to do that before getting it running.
I would think you need to drain the gas tank and refill with new fuel.
Once you get it running address the power steering and update the cooling system.
Get a code reader. Many people use bluetooth OBDII apps, the UltraGauge, or one of the more expensive full feature diagnostic tools.

@nysfinest318 the biggest thing with the engine is the cylinders as long as they are not seized everything else is not too bad to fix. You can safely go over the top on oil in the cylinders in the process I listed, but it makes a mess when you turn her over underpower without plugs.
