this is our first suv/v8/truck. our last car was an 07 tiburon and after taking that through the harsh central ny winter we decided to go for a 4wd.

anyway its a 95 with 92k. i thought it was a good deal for 3100. the only thing thats wrong with it is the drivers side door wont open from the outside. he took 300 off the price cuz of it. oh and the window switch bezel is cracked so a couple of the switches are hanging out. although im sure i can find someone selling the parts here.

other than that it runs very nice. no drift or dead zone. smooth sailing really. im so used to small 4 cyl cars i feel like im driving a friggen bus lol.

quick pic:

is there a seperate key for the back door? all i got was one key and it goes in but it wont turn the lock.

I key fits all doors.
Probably will need to remove the inner door panel to access the out door latch assembly to see what is wrong.
Consider doing my service list posted at the top of this Discover section, to get your truck up and current.

i removed the door panel to see if any of the rods were broken or loose and everything looks fine. i even reached through the window and pulled the door handle and pulled the rod inside the door to see if it would go any further and it doesnt. im taking it to a friend tomaro but easy solution for me would be to just get another door.

make sure that the latch assy is releasing from the door frame when you are working the handle.

the rod might be intact but the latch assy. may not be releasing fully. something in the handle, lock, latch assy it flubbed up. NOT the entire door.

Start by lubing all the door locks with silicon spray.
Take the straw and stick it into the key hole and spray man spray!!!
Every single car manufacture recommends doing this every 6 months.
For the cargo door remove the LR emblem (pops right off) and spray the latch too, this needs to be done as much as once a week depending on how dusty it is where you live/drive.
Lube ALL latches/hinges/ect.
That means hood latch, fuel door key hole...every thing that moves.
On the door stay for the cargo door use bicycle chain lube, you will see that once you get the door open.

As for Mikes list, it is a good list but do NOT fill your engine with transmission fluid.

Also do NOT use DexCool, use any other aluminum safe coolant, I use Peak Global 50/50.

fixed the door problem. the rod for the outside handle wasnt pulling the latch far enough. took it apart and readjusted the screw. pretty simple.

just a couple more questions. i found what looks like an alarm and/or door lock remote inside the glove box. it didnt do anything but i checked the battery with my dvom and its dead. the decals are rubbed off of the entire thing so i have no idea what its supposed to do but it does have the land rover logo on the back of it. i can get a picture of it later but maybe someone can verify these things came with someone like that.

when we got this it didnt have a manuel or anything so we're pretty much guessing on what does what. i wont even touch the shifter cuz ive no idea how to use the 4wd/awd function properly yet. theres alot of buttons and stuff up on the dashboard that ive never seen on a "normal" car before. theres a button that looks like a skateboard in the middle of the road for example. its next to the clock. most of them dont seem to do anything though. like one on the left side of the shifter thats the fog light button, even though it doesnt even have fog lights. did the dealers offer these options but when they werent put on the vehicles the buttons were left there anyway?

like i said this is my first truck/suv/4wd/awd/V8. i still think i should buy a manuel online but alittle help now would be good.

Do a search on the forum for the RAVE manual, it is THE work shop manual for LR's and it also has the owners hand book.

On the left side of the steering cowel are buttons for the rear fogs lights, your headlights must be on for them to work.
Rear window defroster.
Stereo channel up and down.
Right side is stereo volume up and down, rear wiper and rear window wash.
On the steering wheel is the cruise set/resume/coast.
On the dash is the front fog lights, again your headlights must be on, and the cruise control master power button.
That is the skateboard looking thing.

As for the 4x4 shifter...the truck is full time four wheel drive, NOT all wheel drive and NOT part time four wheel drive.

Back and to the right is hi-unlocked, back and to the left is hi-locked, forward and to the right is lo-unlocked, forward and to the left is lo-locked.
In the center is neutral, even with the transmission in park if the transfer case is in neutral the truck will roll away unless the parking brake is set.
The parking brake is on the output shaft of the transfer case, it is a drum brake and when it is set both front and rear driveshafts will not turn.
Unlocked means that both the front and rear driveshaft can spin at different speeds.
When it is locked both front and rear driveshafts are locked together and they both get equal amounts of power.
This is HUGE when off roading.
You want to use this lever once a month to keep it from seizing up.
Transmission in neutral, move the shifter left or right, front or back.
You can also shift while moving under 5mph.

thanks a ton man! and we just thought the cruise control was broken lol. although it doesnt have a rear wiper. go figure.

i had to read that last part a few times for it to sink in. right now the truck looks like its set at forward and to the right. which on the sticker it just has a big H. im guessing the best spot for it to be set at is an unlocked position for just normal road conditions but whats the difference between hi and lo?
