New owner, 3 Amigos and off road questions
Hello everyone, first off I'm a new owner of a 2000 LR Disco II. I've already started doing the list of stuff for service. I've done all of the fluid changes already. Also had to put new brakes, rotors and new front wheel hubs on it. Currently it has the three amigos. I tore apart the abs system and did the option B fix from the landroverclubvi info. When I had all the stuff out of the truck I check continuity from the connector to the actual shuttle valve wiring and didn't get anything, so I know it was my main problem (darn little crappy circuit board). I dont have a scanner or a way to reset my ABS codes right now though so the lights are still on.
From what I understand from searching and reading all the info here is that with these lights on it limits some of the off road capability of the land rovers. No traction control, hill descent control, etc. Please dont judge me but I do have lots of experience off roading with my built up jeep but I have none with the land rovers.
I was planning on taking the Rover to the beach but I'm not sure what its capabilities are like, especially with the 3 amigos on. In your guys experience, should I be worried about going through the sand before I can reset the codes?
Also, anyone have a ABS scanner in the Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, NC area that I could borrow or rent for a day?
Thanks already for the information that you guys have provided on this forum, makes coming into the rover world a little easier.

Even with TC sand can hose you if you get too rambunctious. If you're just going to go cruising the beach I wouldn't worry too much. Myself, I'd cut some sections of 2X12s to use as ghetto sand ladders in case I needed them and if you've the CDL nipple take a wrench and have fun. I really can't really remember a time when TC has kicked in when just driving the beach. I generally kick it into low roll down all the windows turn off the cell phone and keep it slow, steady and relaxed - blue hair style.

Thanks for the information guys, I ended up taking her out to the beach (kids wouldn't stop bugging us about going). The beach we go to is pretty solid with only a few spots where it gets a little deep. I just had to keep the momentum up without flooring it.
After reading all the other posts, I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this but I figured I'd ask anyway (plus need to get my minimum posts in to see pictures). Is there anyway to just clear the codes without the specialized ABS scanners for Land Rover? I know disconnecting the battery won't do it and the OBDII Scanner that I have i know won't do it but is there any tricks like standing on one leg while you turn the ignition 3 times
. (I've heard some crazy tricks before) Again thanks for the replies.

I'm pretty sure I've fixed the problem, well at least fixed one problem. I took apart the ABS Modulator already. I did continuity testing from the outside connector to the shuttle valves (I believe I've got the terminology right) with a negative result. This leads me to believe that the little circuit board thingy is screwed up so I did the fix of running my own wire and bypass the circuit board. (Option B for the ABS Mod from www.landroverclubvi.com) So now I should be able to clear the codes and hopefully there isn't any other problems and all the stuff should work.
Call around, my dealer charges $60 to read and clear ABS codes. Other shops may have a scanner that can read and clear rover ABS codes. Let them know you have fixed the problem and just need a code clear and you are willing to pay. You may find you have a sensor code also though.
Most dealer will not just read and clear codes, especially when it is a saftey issue like brakes. They will charge you an hours labor and just try and sell you what they want.
The 3 Amigo scanner is on a special group buy right now for around $150 and worth every penny.
