new owner immobiliser question
Hi all, I just purchased a 04 disco se7 and wanted to clear something up. I searched and read the manual but couldn't find the answers I was looking for. After locking the doors using the remote can you manually unlock the door using the key and start the engine. Or must you always have to unlock using the remote to remobilise the engine. The main reason I'm asking is the disco only came with one key. I want to get a spare from the dealer but don't want to spend too much with the keyless entry. I was wondering if I could just get the key and not the remote, but still be able to start my car.
Also how often does everyone change their oil, it states every 7,500 in the manual. Seems like a long period to me.
Last question, I live in Colorado and the dealer told me using 91 octane is a waste of money and even harmful to the engine due to the altitude. He said just use 85 or 87. Anyone live in Colorado who use 85 or 87.
thanks!!

You can lock and unlock with any key or remote combination and not have a problem.
If you use regular oil, change it every 3000 miles, 5000 with synthetic and make sure to use an up-grade larger oil filter like a Mobi1-301 or a K&N 3001. No K&N air filters can be used.
Your front drive shaft should be inspected, if it only has 1 grease fitting it has to be rebuilt or replaced before it brakes taking the tranny with it.
Here is a list I put together for getting any used vehicle current.
1 Oil filter, K&N 3001 or Mobil 1- 301
1 Factory air filter
6 Qts. of engine oil
2 feet of 3/16th vacuum tube
2 feet of 5/16th vacuum tube
12 Qts. of ATF
7 Qts. of 80/90W synthetic gear oil, 85W/140 for HD use
3 Pints of synthetic DOT 4 Brake fluid
2 Qts of synthetic Power steering fluid
2 Gallons of OAT, orange coolant, also called DexCool
1 Bottle of Lucas Power Steering additive
1 Bottle of Lucas Transmission additive
1 Can of Spray Carb. Spray
1 Can Of Brake cleaner
8 Spark Plugs, I use Bosch Platinum Plus 4's
1 Set of Magnacor 8mm plug wires
1 Serpentine belt
2 Bottles of SeaFoam gas additive
1 T/Stat
1 bottle of WaterWetter or Purple Ice
Hoses and belts, as necessary
60,000 Mile Service or Major Service for High Mileage Used Vehicle just purchased
Bleed the brakes
Flush and change the power steering fluid adding one bottle of additive
Service the tranny adding one bottle of additive
Change the coolant and t/stat
Do an engine flush before changing the oil
Do an induction cleaning
Clean the throttle body
Add fuel additive to full gas tank
Change both of the diffs fluid
Change the t/case oil
Replace the plugs and wires
Replace the air filter
Lube all the drive shaft grease fitting including the 2 slip shafts
Do full inspection of brakes, hoses, bushings etc.
Hopefully I didn't leave anything out.
If you have any questions, I am local, we can talk.

Thanks for the recommendations Disco Mike. Regarding the immobiliser, my car won't start if I unlock the door manually with the key. I have to unlock the door using the remote to start the engine. Is this not supposed to happen? Is there anything I can do like resetting the alarm/immob somehow?
You can reset the alarm buy putting the key in the drivers door and locking and unlocking the truck 3 times.
No you do not need to use the remote to unlock and then start the truck.
You MUST use premium gas.
If you sue full synthetic oil change it every 5,000 miles, I use NAPA and Purolator oil filters, NAPA is made by WIX and both are top rated oil filters and cost under $6.
