Question New Poster - Yet Another Misfire Post

Hi all,

I am a new poster here and would appreciate feedback on a problem I am experiencing. I really like my Disco II, but it has been running rough with misfires. I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

It is a 1999 truck with over 140.000 miles on it. The following codes appeared: 1300, 0301, 0302, & 0306. Changed the wires to 8mm Kingsborne and had Champion 7070 plugs (RC11PYPB4) put in. While the misfires continue, some of the codes did not appear again. Unfortunately, the mechanic, yes I used a mechanic for this, did not have the remaining code written down. I trust everything was put in correctly. He thinks replacement of the coil pack will solve the problem. Not a cheap job! Assuming all need to be replaced.

Looking at older posts, I have seen people recommend replacing the coils, O2 sensors, and other parts. Is there any way to narrow down the list. I would hate to chase parts on this.

Thanks.

Find out what codes you have left. This will help to determine if it is a coil or not.

Try and get all the codes.
Are you using premium gas?

OK, I'll get the remaining code and post again.

I have been using regular gas. My sister-in-law bought the car at auction and ran it on regular gas for awhile without a problem so I did the same. It doesn't appear to be a fuel issue but I am open to your thoughts on this.

Thanks

Well you MUST use premium gas, it will run fine on regular but you will reduce your MPG and you will sludge up the engine.
The $4 that you are saving at the pump will cause you to buy gas more often so your $4 savings is null and void.
Start using premium gas, clear the codes and drive it so that the ECU can relearn the correct octane gas.
If you are not willing to buy premium then sell the truck because you will have nothing but trouble with it.

It tells you to use premium gas right there on the inside of the fuel door. It is necessary in these engines and. Spike said you will be paying for it if you use regular.

So, because you weren't running the correct octane, you have carboned up your heads which will cause misfires. Go get the codes read,"TODAY" at your local auto parts store and get us the 4 digit fault code numbers. Don't do anything else till this is done.

OK, understood. Premium gas from now on.

The remaining code I got today is: P1590 There were no more misfire codes.

My Land Rover Code sheet says this is an "ABS rough road signal circuit malfunction. Hardware is ok but SLABS ECU is sending an error signal." The Service Engine Light also continues to flash.

No other codes came up on the computer (unless something was missed by the AutoZone employee). I have had the "three amigos" since I received the truck, but do not see how this ABS code would relate to the rough engine. Is this simply a matter switching to Premium?

Thanks. I guess I am learning the hard way.

P1590 will make your ABS light stay on and is a code associated with the 3 amigos. You cannot clear it with a regular scanner but it will not make your CEL come on and is a separate issue than the one at hand. Dump a few bottles of techron in a full tank of premium and consider doing a sea foam induction cleaning.

Thanks lipadj46.

I'll follow your advice and see if there is any improvement. I am not familiar with Seafoam, but will look for info on how it's done on the LR. I assume there is something on the boards here.

I'll let you know how it goes.
