Problem with cruise, doesn't work we assumed it was the fuse however I checked the fuse and it was fine. Anyone care to take a stab at what I could be looking at?

Vacum leak, 90% of Rover cruise not working is vacum leaks.

 

I assume you remember me from the alternator belt issue.... I pick stuff up well but frankly don't understand what that means. Is this something I should try to fool with? Is it an expensive fix? Basically, what am I needing to do to make it work again, or should I just accept it not working?

 

I remember you, I didnt look at the name before...you can do this too. There are little rubber hoses coming out of the firewall and connecting to the engine and the cruise module, the ends get cracked and leak. Cruise control on older cars runs off of engine vacum, not enough vacum and no worky worky.
On the passenger fender is a, man, I cant describe it. I will have to take a pic tommorrow after work and post it for you.
But what you will have to do is follow the vacum lines from this do-hicky and check all the ends at the connectors. I used Liquid Tape on mine, just gooped up the ends with the stuff and it has worked for over a year now.

agree. just as spike said-right behind the battery is the unit to look at. follow the throttle linkage if you have any doubts. on mine (2001) there was a vacuum hose that came off of the top that went to the bottom that needed replaced. hth.

 

So another words I can look at it without having to get under the car?

 

absolutely. first thing to check is find the unit mentioned. find hose and remove it entirely. inspect. if it is cracked (it probably is) replace length of tube. I made the mistake of relying on my sense of touch instead of just removing hose and inspecting. after I removed I found a big hole and put in new tube.

 

I can't find a picture online, but if you are standing in the front of the vehicle, the unit in question is to the left-hand side. You should see throttle linkage going towards this unit...behind the battery.

There is a piece of hose no longer than 6 inches long (probably shorter) that comes off of the top of the unit and is routed to the bottom of the unit. Easiest thing is to simply pull it off on both sides and look it over. The bottom is tough to inspect without removing. I noticed a leak on the top of my hose and repaired it but still no cruise. not until I removed the entire hose and looked it over that I found the other holes.

This vacuum line is just to the side of the vacuum booster and if you follow it under the dash it will guide you to the brake switch.

This goes to the vacuum pod that pulls the throttle.

If you follow the vaccum line from the tee from the first pic it will take you to the vacuum pump.
just replace all of the lines, about $5.

 

Sweet, the pics are already taken, just follow every one of those vacum loines, they crack and then leak at the ends.
