Default New rear shocks

Need new rear shocks for my Disco II

Was thinking on the Nitrocharger Sport Old man Emu ARB.

Any thoughts?

O, can I just change them out?
Meaning, can I do just the back and not the front.
Do I have to do the springs too?

Why are you not doing the front? If you have over 50,000 miles and do any sort of wheeling, the fronts are gone also along with the steering stabilizer. If money is the issue, then yes, do them in stages.

Kind of a money issue.
The shocks I was thinking about are about $100 per.
So I thought I would start in the back.
The back appears to be easier to replace as well.

Are the shocks I'm thinking of what you would recommend?

TerraFirma AT shocks, $62+ shipping.

TerraFirma shocks from Lucky 8

Mike has and recommends the OME shocks, but honestly after talking to Justin @ Lucky 8 he informed me that the OME shocks are now made in China.. So I opted for TerraFirma. I just ran my TerraFirma on several miles of washboard with good ride and control. They offer control when I was tucking tires and pushing my articulation yesterday. Not sure if the OME is really different/better but alot of folks seem quite happy with the TerraFirma.

Justin has been having cost disputes wit OME for some time now and does push the T.F. a lot. The OME is a far better shock based on it's 3 valve system, that no one else offers, I don't care where it is made.
Untill T.F. has a few more years of use under their belts I will stay with OME.
Here is a copy I pulled from the ARB section on OME Sport Shocks.

FEATURES

Engineered for both on road and off road drivability
Durability proven under extensive laboratory and real life testing, supported by scientific data logging

Dramatically improved low and high speed control for increased comfort and control over all road surfaces
Fully compatible with OME’s extensive line of springs, bushings and hardware for a complete integrated suspension system
3 year, 35,000 mile warranty
Made in Australia

I made a long boring phone call today, and after being transferred 5 times and ending in tech support I was informed by the rep that OME dampers are indeed made by Tenneco (Rancho & Monroe dampeners) within the Monroe brand division. they are valved to OME specs for upgraded usually higher spring rates. OME labels and packages the shocks for distribution. Production is overseas, but he would say where.

I am only posting his since sometimes we are all quick to criticize Chinese/Asian produced goods. Yet some of the products we use and like are indeed made in the place we criticize. Just my 2 cents. Oh and I assume my TerraFirma dampers are made in Asia somewhere.

I wonder if OME users can just visit a Monroe shop to get replacements?

I am fairly positive that OME shocks are built at Tenneco's Adelaide, Australia facility. I will try to confirm this for sure. Tenneco builds shocks for tons of companies (OE as well as aftermarket) outside the Monroe and Rancho brand.

Yeah I think I got everything I could out of the guy I talked too. he did indicate that make shocks for hundreds of company's. They make shocks for AllMakes but I couldn't confirm if it is the TerraFirma line from AllMakes.
