New treads - BFG AT KO2
#32
I think you've convinced me to go with these. Was thinking 255/55r18 as well but looking at the available sizes I'm wondering if the 265/60r18 would fit? I just ordered new terrafirma coils and shocks. Going standard height instead of 2" lift. Anybody know if the larger size will fit on new stock suspension?

Any vehicle l've bought with BF's...gets new tires immediately. Never understood the allure towards these tires? Only off road terrain they were "somewhat" okay....was sand. Other than that, useless. Funny, we started outfitting our fleet of plow trucks with these...and after the first snow...the plow guys were doing nothing but complaining. Couldn't push snow worth a darn, and were beating the living snot out of the trucks to get snow moved. We've outfitted the plow trucks with Cooper AT3's or Cooper Evolution Winter tires...and the guys couldn't be happier. We got four inches the other day (which was on top of packed ice and snow) and one of the drivers told me he'd been plowing all day in 2 wheel drive. And added..."Couldn't imagine even trying that with those crappy BF Goodrich tires." His words, not mine.
One of the worst hydroplaning experiences l've ever had was on BF's. When you look at the thread, most run slightly horizontal to rotation and are somewhat inner locked, where next lug blocks the removal of water from escaping through the tire rotation, which pushes water out of the sides, instead of pushing it out behind or in front. Pushing water out of the sides or getting trapped, causes the tire to wander.
These brand new BF's came off the defender a few weeks after l bought it.
New Atturo Trailblade. Love this tire, no hydroplaning, cleans out nicely in mud (considering it's a A/T) and has great road manners. The other day, drove through 18 inches of snow like it wasn't there.
Tire has four major vertical grooves that run continuously with rotation, which allows water to flow "through them" in the same direction you're moving. While, very little exits the side lugs.

I’d like to get some Atturo but they don’t seem to make them in the size I want 255/55R18. Few seem to offer a good A/T tire in that size. Another close candidate is the Ridge Grappler. I might take a closer look. But BF sells a ton of KO2s with good reviews. So if I do go with them I’m sure they’ll be fine for my purposes.
