We can now shatter the myth that coil packs go bad in pairs of cylinders. For reference, I had a misfire on cylinder 4 - P0304. I replaced the coil pack and it runs fantastic! I bought a pair of used coil packs off of ebay for $29 + $10 shipping.

The job wasn't bad. Just take your time and make sure you have the rave CD manual so you can see the exploded view of the bolts you need to remove.

While I had the upper plenum off I found the slight coolant leak under the throttle body. Replaced the gasket.

well, I have exactly the same issue... had P0304, I replaced the wires (magnacore 8mm) and plugs (bosch +4s) and I still have the P304.

I guess I am going to get new coils...

 

and.... it was the coil for me too. now the disco runs like a champ again.

after doing back to back the wire installation without removing the intake and with removing the intake, I'd say it's a much "cleaner" job if you remove the intake

Makes sense. The coil pack sits right up against the engine block. Prob got too hot or too wet over the years and went bad like a lot of other things on a V8 4x4 truck. I always replaced dist caps when I would do cables and plugs on my jeeps

That's awesome you found and fixed it man.

Now come show me how to take all that stuff off so I can replace my valve cover gaskets.

 

I, too, have a cyl 4 misfire that comes and goes. I have magnecore 8s on the way, but should I consider changing the coils at the same time to save myself the effort down the road? Or have some people resolved this issue with just the wires?

 

A misfire on one cylinder should not make you think coils.

When does it happen? Only in the morning/cold start?
