Newbie -Disco ACE Fluid & Rear Suspension
Hi
I'm a new member in Dubai and have been checking the forum for information on my Disco. Its proving to be a great help and the knowledge base is excellent.
I currently have some problems with my ACE and rear suspension :
My ACE warning lights are red and flashing and i've discovered a leak under the bonnet. Its hard to trace the leak since there is so much oil there so i'll need to steam clean the area and find locate the leak. Its not leaking too much though but enough to need topping up every few days. I looked in the manual and it says that it uses the same fluid as the power steering reservoir so i've used P/S fluid but checking one of Mikes' replies, i think i should have used fluid only available from my L/R dealer. What should i do?
My rear air suspension is occasionally dropping on the driver rear side, sometimes while parked and other times while driving. I have to park and push the SLS switch to pump it back up but only after the car has been off for some time.
Any ideas what the problem is? is the ACE leak and rear suspension linked in any way?
Thanks for any help in advance - MAX

They are not related. The height sensor on your SLS has gone bad.
As for the ACE, the fluid you are using is fine, here is what is recommended but it is just power steering fluid.

You need to find your leak and fix it before you ruin your ACE pump.

Any ideas as to where the SLS height sensor is located and how to replace it?

Well because you are in Dubai it will be in a different spot. LOL
Ok, sorry, poor attempt at a bad joke.
It is located on the air spring somewhere. I do not know a whole lot about the SLS so somebody who knows more will have to take over from here.
Good luck with your truck.

Don't steam clean the engine, power scrub it only using as little degreaser as possible.
Are you have to add fluid to the ACE, if so how much, how often?
Regular p/s fluid is fine, I never use Rovers ACE fluid, actually I only use Vavolines synthetic p/d.
As for the ACE warning lights, when did you last service it/ If you look in the reservor, is the fluid still churning around when the engine is running?
What year is your truck, how many miles on it?
You are going to need to find a mechanic that has a lap top type scanner with the proper software so you can access both the SLS and ACE codes, fix and reset.
Don't just start throwing parts at it.
With you ACE warning lights, I would quit driving it before you do additional damage and get into the BIB BUCKS$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I add P/S fluid to the Disco every 3 days or so. Its driven approx 80kms each day. When the light comes on, it stays on until the engine is stopped. If we go out later, the light does not come on. Seems to be intermittent but that could be because the level is just passing the minimum mark before the sensors pick up.
I'll check to see if the fuid is churning when the engine is running.
The Disco is a 2003 HSE with 72k miles. No service history i'm afraid
