Newbie questions
Hi all
I just picked up a 00 Discovery with a 100k on it. Two questions.
Having it for only a week I had to get the radiator cored out. Cost $800 to fix, the mechanic said if I needed a new radiator it would have been $800 + labor. That sounds a little high to me??? Does anyone know a reasonably priced mechanic in the SFV or Ventura CA area?
It has an electric transmission. What is it and what does it do differently? So far it seems like a reg auto trans…
(Btw I tried the search and could not find anything)

It looks like you can get a new radiator for about $525.00 - $550.00 from either Rover Connections or British Atlantic. I’ve purchased parts from both companies and have been very happy with their service.

I haven’t had to replace my radiator yet, but it doesn’t look too difficult. From the description of your local, it seems you are very close to my home (Ventura CA). If you want to do the replacement yourself just let me know, I’m game to help.
I WOULD NOT TAKE YOUR TRUCK TO LAND ROVER, VENTURA... I had a very bad experience with them. As I talk with other local LR owners I find the bad experience is consistant.
DISCOMIKE suggested EAST WEST Motors in SB as an alternative.

Yes a new radiator for a Discovery is about $700 plus shipping from Rovers North, so they are about right for a local repair shop.
As for the electric transmission I will leave the to Discomike, I do know that it is electronic controlled. I know in both of my discoverys, the colder it is the shift pattern is longer until everything gets warmed up.
A piece of advice when owning a Land Rover product, perform your regular maintenance, and it will last you a good long while.

You did get stung on the radiator, youu normally don't get a radiator with 100K on it cored, hust replaced.
Yes, your tranny is controlled by your TCU which is regulated by your ECU, why do you ask?
