I normally take my Kalahari & wheel the crap out of it. I just pick my lines carefully & if it looks to sketchy I go around it. Unlike 90% of the guys there I had nearly a 6hr drive home! I had some TLC to address when I got back (blown tie rod ends & rear bumper trim MIA), but besides that and a few scratches I normally do quite well.

Now that I’m gonna build up the 97 XD I have I’ll be saving the Kalahari from the severe stuff now.

Mine is a 9/10 regarding condition and for that reason alone I would never take it off road. Dirt trails, sure. It is just to rare find a very clean sorted low mile bone stock D1. My reasoning is simple..preservation. I had all the fun in college with my first one (regrettably sold it) and now want to enjoy my current one. Took me to long to find it only for me to ruin it. But hey, to each his own. My plan is to get another one for off roading that is already been ding donged!

Good old days!! Circa 2000

Thank you Kodak for the point-n-shoot:

Not guilty at all... all my body panels are pretty badly beat up. Collision with a quad bike, tree scrapes, dents, scratches, I have it all. I'd like to keep her in better shape but not sure it's practical. I'd like to add some fender bars to connect the bumper to the sliders (I forget what they're called) and get some 'new' junkyard panels... possibly a paint job.. but who knows how long that'll all last.

I spent the first year trying to get my disco to show room quality inside and out with all the OEM goodies. Then I said F it and the truck has not been washed since.

I do some relatively hard stuff, but I tend to agree. Mine is far from concourse, but everything works and I use it truly as an SUV, and I enjoy driving it, so I’m in no rush to do “hold my beer” action.

My Kalahari is pretty rare and 9/10 condition D2, but while it’s unique I still want to enjoy it for what it was made for. I choose the medium trails, and normally after those I branch off with the hardcore group. Most of the off road parks around here have bypasses at the extreme stuff.

The XD has a super clean body, but it’s rotten underneath so I’m gonna wheel it pretty hard. Then when the floor/rockers give out it’ll get an organ transplant surgery.

While I am pretty hard on my vehicles I also maintain them extremely well.

If I had 6 Land Rovers I’d be wheeling a few as well!
