Because tier rotations are now always front to back, same side.
Old school was rotate all 5 tires, but now it is recommended only 4, front to back.

My understanding is sront to back is generally for directional tires. If you have a full sized spare doing a 5 tire rotation as it will increase your overall tire life. Rotate often.

thanks for the info....i am getting uneven wear on the front tires, inside left and outside right, the back tires are wearing evenly and all 4 are just over 1 year old. would a lack of rotation cause uneven wear or am i looking at possible suspension issues? i plan on doing an alignment before changing tires and then maintaining a good rotation schedule, but if i do have suspension problems would like to address that sooner than later....thanks fellas.

You have suspension issues.

Your spare will last forever if you dont rotate it into the mix.
If you do next time you need tires you will be having to buy 5 instead of 4.
So instead of spending $800 you will spend $1000.

Now lets add that if you spare is not the exact same brand/tread design of the other 4 tires you are looking at messing with the trucks stopping and handling.

How many miles and what shape are your shocks and springs in? I had uneven tire wear from worn out springs.

That would be number one on your list, you are overdue for new springs and shocks.

Could be bad shocks and/or springs, bad ball joints, tie rods, tire pressure, caster/camber, toe-in, toe-out...could be almost anything.

Your best bet is a free estimate from a suspension shop before you do anything else.
