I'm in the process of shopping for a 04 Disco SE7, I was looking at an 03 in the dead zone and you folks were helpful in swaying my decision towards an 04 as I'm going to use it off road quite a bit and the 04 has a CDL (from what I read)

My question or request for input is that I'm currently looking at two options :

1. 04 Disco SE7 with 60,000miles, great shape, new sneakers, older guy owns it and had many fancy vehicles... catch is that it is a rebuild title and according to him might of had a slight roll

2. 04 Disco SE7 with 77,000miles, also great shape, a little bit more details on repairs and maintenance done (i.e. new plugs and wires, brakes, exhaust)

what would be things to look at for a vehicles that might of encountered being rolled and fixed?

I would buy the 77K Disco. A rebuilt title would be enough for me to move on. Who knows what repairs are under that skin and when the repairs will fail. I would even be willing to pay more for this one with the higher miles.

Just curious, what are they asking for this Disco?

 

10,700 for the rebuild and 11,500 for the higher mileage one

 

Make an offer of 10,700$ for the 77K Disco. I paid 11K for my 03 SE7 with 50K miles. If I knew about the Death range at the time I may have made an offer of much less although the 04's can also have oil pump issues so its really just a crap shoot if its going to fail.

 

I'm pretty sure I can get the 77K for the same price as the lower mileage rebuilt one.

or make an offer for 8k for the the salvage title. He won't be able to sell it at 10k, no way, salvage titles you have to bite the bullet.

 

Keep your options open. I just bought a 01 Disco 2 SE7 90 K for 6,700. I also found a 01 DII with 70 K for 6500.

Most people will suggest prepurchase inspection. Unfortunately for me time didn't permit but I plan on doing all the recommended services.

 

FYI...from the perspective of someone who used to manage an auto remarketing operation for a major leasing/finance company, you should be aware that the vehicle having a salvage title is generally viewed as a 40% to 60% deduction from book value.

If it is in exceptional condition, then the Clean trade-in on the salvage vehicle (assuming rear air, no entertainment, etc) in my part of the country comes back at $11400. Consequently, I wouldn't pay anything more than $6k for it. (An initial offer of $4300 to $5000 is probably more appropriate.)

If the current owner is offended by such low offers, then walk away. That truck will never be worth much more than $6k if you were to ever try to sell it.

 

the one with the salvage title might have been rolled? as in wheels up? that vehicle may have been rebuilt but safety wise, iwould trust it at all. If the body was straightened, you are one good accident from sittin in an accordian.
either way, go for the one without the salvage title. way to much unknown in a vehicle with a salvage title.

 

Heck, there are 2 2004 D2's right on this forum that sound better...
