$500 for a full fluid flush? Would I need any special tools for doing all this myself? I've got thebasic tools.

If you were to have your truck properly serviced, yes, that is the type of labor you will be looking at. If you want to do it your self, with no special tools, PM me your tele number and a good time for me to call you.
