I've installed countless headunits over the years, I'm not a stranger to wiring, but damn the rave manual wiring diagrams. Ooof. Not used too that style.
What I am used to is matching factory harness wires to the new radio, and crimping little red tubes on.
NEVER had I encountered an AFTERMARKET headunit that plugs into the factory harness. Mind blown.
Check it out.

Props to my wife, who we just bought the rover for, who said "Wait!, don't cut that! These plugs look like the ones on the back here..." while I was trying to involve her by showing how(usually) straight forward it is to splice in a HU. I would have cut into the harness and never realized.

That IS amazing. That said. Crutchfield Audio will make a harness for any stereo unit they sell to do a plug and play installation in ANY car. Generally about $25. Well worth it !!!

This reminds me that I really need to see about searching for a steering column radio control wire harness for my Sony radio.

Did the steering wheel controls work with that head unit as well? Assuming that your disco has the controls on the wheel.

Yes, we have SWCs but we just wanted the cheapest Bluetooth option, and this 30$ headunit doesn't support them.

after looking at their website they do have models that do, and they have the same harness setup.

LOTS of other places to spend $$$ on our $1000 Disco, new dampers are up next I think.

I was thinking about going down the path ofconverting the dash to a double dinbut I agree with you, there are so many other things to spend money on before the audio system. Thank you for linking to the unit you bought!

Can you post a pic of it installed to see what it looks like?

In case anybody was wondering, I bought this unit this week and installed this morning. Took about 2 seconds. I think it looks pretty good, Bluetooth is nice and sound isn't too bad with stock speakers and amp.

Nice, yup that is the one. Bluetooth is really handy it turns out. Wife will actually answer my calls now if she's driving by using the head unit call feature.

So the mic is built into the head unit? How well does that work?
I had an alpine unit in my Toyota a while back and I had to run a mic that mounted just behind my steering wheel.
