Default not exhaust

well, it is the head gasket. i went under the car to try to locate the leak, it is right under the manifold. so ordering new head gasket set and planing on doing that when i return from las vegas in a couple weeks. this head gasket crap is really starting to make me dislike the choice i made in getting this discovery. I hope that after this second head gasket replacment i dont run into any more major problems.

How long ago did you replace the headgaskets the first time?

Did you do the last headgaskets, did you use new head bolts, did you check to see if the heads were warped?

Default did the heads myself

yes i did do the work, the land rover specailist quoted me above 2300 for the head job, and that was the day i became a mechanic. i had alot of help for friends and nieghbors that did have expeirence, and the mech' that resurfaced and reset my heads came down and looked at the block for me and said it looked good. there was one point the fluid got low so i am going to hunt for that leak when i get back under the hood. would it be dumb to just do the one head. new gasket new bolts and put it back together? its just discorageing that i'm gone have to dig into it again, so i dont even know what advice to ask for, but i do appericate all the help this place gives.

sorry i did the heads alittle less then a year ago, the only thing i can think unless i did something wrong, is the water leak allowed the head to over heat and blow the gasket. the water leak has elluded me, i thought it was on the back of the top end, but after review surfing i thought it could be the top radiator hose above the thermosat beacause the water would be in the groves on top the water pump (makeing me think the pump was out, so before this mess i wanted to have a rod job done the radiator and replace the water pump) but the water would always run of the back of the vally and fall on the exhaust (terrible smell), but the head leak appears to be just exhaust. so any tips other then "JB weld it and sell it" would be great, thats what i get for asking around up here in northern california.

I'm perhaps reading it wrong, but if your leak appears to be just above the water pump then there is a good chance it is the timing cover seal. Your waterpump has two ports in the timing cover into the block. If the seal goes bad for the timing cover you can get antifreeze pushing out between the cover and the block.
