Default 'O' ring on oil filler/level plug for front and rear axle

I'm replacing my front and rear axle oil (as well as the transfer case oil). The RAVE calls to discard the old 'O' ring on the oil filler/level plug for the front and rear axles and replace with a new one. I've called AB & the stealership and neither has such an 'O' ring. I assume if it is not leaking it is probably good to go, correct? Or if not, does anyone have a suggestion on a suitable replacement? Is it rubber or plastic? Does anyone know the size?

Also, I wanted to verify that I will need 7 Qts of gear oil for all three drain and fills (front and rear axle oil as well as the transfer case oil).

AB has the o'rings call them or just go to home depot and look for the correct size. And yes 7 quarts (a but bit less actually).

lipadj46...I've called AB & the stealership and neither has such an 'O' ring. The stealership had a plastic plug for a DI (that comes w/ 'O' ring). AB had neither for a DII or DI.

I was hoping to get a size for the 'O' ring before I get it off because it is my only vehicle and once I get it off it is a long walk to Home Depot or any auto parts store (about 10 miles).

Found them:

Also just note I changed my diffs 2 times now and have not replaced the plug or orings yet. I have them just in case though.

Here is the plug:

Here is the O'ring (for whatever reason they call it a radiator fill plug washer but it fits the plug exactly)

I you want a temp fix, use some teflon tape on the treads, works well. The real fix is to get rif of the plastic fill plugs cause they crack and break, Jon at Expedition Exchange has the good replacements which is a solid brass plug with an o-ring.

lipadj46...you the man!

Know wonder I couldn't find the 'O' ring...who would have thought a radiator fill plug washer would fit?

By the way, I'm going with Royal Purple 85W/140...$17 bucks a quart-OUCH!

THANKS!

$120 for gear lube? Dude you must be rich.

It costs me $35 to do both diffs and t-case.

Spike, Dude...not that rich...LOL...and you talked me out of it and I went with Redline synthetic 75w/140 for 8.00 bucks a quart. I figure since it takes me 2 years to go through 15,000 miles and I pull a trailer during white tail season, it was worth it.

lipadj46...you were right on with the 'O' ring...mine were just fine. Though I think I will get the brass plugs Disco Mike suggested for the future.
