Default OBD Communication Error

I am having some issues. I took my 2000 Disco to get inspected and for the emissions test they have to communicate through the diagnostic tool with an OBD. The mechanic is getting power to his OBD but is getting a communication error. I need some help. I can't get it to pass inspection without it reading it.

Thanks

I had the same problem the first year I owned my Land Rover. They failed it due to a Check engine light on. I told them to test it like a volkswagen and start the car and run the tests. That solved the problem and allowed the vehicle to pass.

Hope it helps.

That makes absolutely no since, start it like a VW???????
If there is a communication issue, first, try another scanner, if it happens again the first have someone check the multi pin connection and see if one of the pins is bent or missing, if that is not it then find a good mechanic cause you may need a ECU.

I have that happen every time out here with Emissions. They attempt to run it while the vehicle ignition is in the on postion. As we know the SES Light stays on till you start the vehicle. It is the only way I can get the vehicle to pass due to the way the ECU works.

Not sure why that works but I took it to another shop for emissions and they failed it. One of the senior guys said it is foreign and that it needs to be tested like a VW due to the SES light staying on till the engine is started.

I got it to communicate. It must have been a loose wire going to the diagnostic receptacle.
