Ok I have been noticing that a lot of shops and disco owners don't pay any attention to some of the stuff we talk about here
for example when I had my 04 disco the engine blew under the previous owner and lucky it was under warranty a very reputable landrover Indy shop replaced it with a brand new block but had oem thermostat oem drive shaft oem ignition wires

example 2 bought my 03 this year always dealer maintained until 3 years ago and same thing oem parts engine running 205 -220 degrees

met a local disco fanatic this weekend has like 5 discos but doesn't have 180 stat ultra guage etc

why dont they do what most of us do here
simple things like 180 stat 8 mm wires etc

i dont care what engine you have I don't think running 210-225 is good and maybe that's why these engines have a bad rap ??

I'm a forum member on a few other British and Australian Land Rover forums.
When I mention some preventive maintenance actions that we do in the states to help them with their Land Rovers, I'm told that my ideas are rubbish and not required.
Suit yourself mate...

Probably not required because it's a diesel vs petrol only here in the US.

Shops won't go nuts with recommendations unless it's a smaller shop that actually treats it's customers like friends vs just a number because that means less issues to fix and make $$$$ on.

I probably turn away all kinds of work with my recommendations, but in the end that just gets me more work by word of mouth honestly.

I have been wrenching on cars for years and been a part of a many forums.

I have seen people continuously put crap parts on their tuner cars, not address known issues, and invest money in a stereo then cheap out on oil.

My thoughts are, it is your vehicle and it makes for great reading material when their vehicle goes to hell in a hand basket.

The other issue a lot of folks drive their trucks much shorter distances in those parts of the world. Less so in Aus than the UK, for certain, so the V8's do not get the same amount of mileage

I took a 2000 Km off road trip over 4 days that would be a huge distance in the UK, and it is basically nothing here in BC. About 1200 of that was on FSR's that were good to awful.

Yep when I used to live in the TX Hill Country it was like 60 miles to grab a gallon of milk lol or even further to watch a new release movie.

Newer vehicles, especially those with high pressure turbos need to run at higher temps. Most dealers have probably gotten to used to dealing with the new stuff that they've forgotten everything about these older vehicles.

I brought my disco into the dealer for air in the rear tires awhile back because I was close, they all looked at it in awe and confusion. I think they were surprised to see it still on the road

The other thing is, a lot of info on forums needs to be taken with a grain of salt. A lot of recommendations are poor, uneducated or old wive's tales. Some probably cause more damage than what's already been done, but some, like the 180 t-stat, are well documented enough to be taken more seriously.

On that note, at 33C on Friday, I was running at 183 at stop lights, 181 driving on the highway and only got up to 185 when I shut the a/c off at a light. I can say I'm happy with my t-stat lol

Some think they know LR's or D2's inside out but when push comes to shove they are often clueless unfortunately. To me an engine is an engine whatever the fuel, an auto is an auto and an axle is an axle, nothing too magical about anything on LR's or anything else automotive come to that, just nuts and bolts.
