Default ODB II reader

Who can recommend a good ODB II reader. I want one which hooks up to my laptop, if possible. That way it should be cheaper. I thought I had found what I needed when I ordered the Drive Right CarChip. Their tech support told me tonight that this CarChip reader is only good for getting codes that make the "Check Engine" come on. The ABS lights were not supported. One question I have is: The port under the dash, does it give you ALL the codes or is there another connector.

I'll appreciate the help.

Thank you.

Email if needed. thenderson4@bellsouth.net

The one I plan to buy "any minute now" is the vehicle explorer. It's not an elf, but the guy who made it seems to know his stuff.

Here's the link: http://www.obd-2.com/index.html

I'd also apprecaite any feedback on this tool.

Another that looks pretty good is the autotap: http://www.autotap.com/

I am leaning toward the vehicle explorer for the more "bare metal" communications available.

Again, like the OP any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers,

-Keith

You will need to spend $8000 or more for a scanner that can also access your ABS, SRS, SLS and any other functions not related to your engine.
Rovers Test Book is a mear $32,000 plus depending on a few options.

Interesting. With my VW/Audi OBDIIdongle and software (from Ross-Tech)I can access the ABS module among many other modules and channels.

Don't get me wrong, themain reason I use it on the Disco' is because I already owned it. If I "needed"to utilize it as much as I do for the Audi, I'd buy more specific software.
