Default Odometer Blinking?? Suggestions Welcome

Hello All,

Last weekend pulled my instument cluster to replace the little backlight bulb.
All went well, very simple procedure, extremly satified the illumination was back!
Now the odometer continues blink/flash!
Its driving me nuts![:@] I hate having something function abnormally on my vehicles, I know its small but would like to correct it.
Any suggestions on how to stop the flashing?
Thanks!

Regards,

Nick

You will need to go to a dealer or a mechanic that has a Test Book scanner and have them reconnect the speedo to the ECU.

Depending on your independent qualifications, this situation calls for the precise placement of

A. Duct Tape

B. Electrical Tape - color of your choice

Enjoy

Mike when you say "reconnect the speedo to the ECU" would that be to stop the flashing?

The odometer is working properly, miles are being added as normal.

A trip to the dealer will stink due to replacing a two dollar bulb!

Will it stop blinking after time (wishful thinking)?

Thanks

Default odometer blinking

Wife just left on vacation. After about four hours of driving she calls to tell me that the odometer is blinking.?? I searched on this forum without much luck. We have owned the vehicle for about a year, no problems other than three amigos. I changed the front driveshaft two days ago. Any relation to problem? What coud cause the odometer to blink, is it serious, and how to fix it(other than tape across display)? Thanks everyone.

the odometer needs to be reset, you unpluged it, or at least disturbed it and it lost what it knew. the dealer will resynch it to the secondary odometer that lives in your bcu. and as to ace, did it just start happening while she was driving? usually its caused by low voltage or ecus being disconnected, but i dont see how the driveshaft has anything to do with it

Question

Dave,

Thanks for reply. I don't know how the odometer could have been disturbed. The blinking has not been present before now, no repair other than driveshaft recently repaired. It came on sometime during the drive. She did not know exactly when. What could have occurred to bring this problem? Just a computer glitch? ecu failure? Is it indicative of other problems possibly? As for the 3 amigos, they have been present for some time, not too worried about that. I hope to get it repaired by end of summer. Appreciate the help.

ive seen it happen for no good reason at all, but as i said before, its usually with a low voltage issue. could be a bad ground or something... but id try the reset first and see what happns
