Default OEM Ski rack solution

Just an FYI... There is no longer an OEM ski carrier that fits the Discovery's cross bars.

The old part # LRN50145, has been replaced by CAN500030. The CAN part # is for RR and the Disco3, and is also listed for the Disco2 in the parts db. 3 different LR dealers have confirmed that this doesn't fit (I ordered it, and found out the hard way).

Also of note: The CAN is almost identical to the Thule 726 6 pair ski carrier (sliding one) EXCEPT that the hardware to mount the rack to the cross bars is different, so you couldn't buy the Thule FM1 clamp and attach it to the OEM carrier.

Luckily, I was able to find a LRN50145 in old stock at a local dealer and just buy that. You could also do the Thule 726 with FM1 universal clamp, but I swear that clamp didn't fit on the OEM cross bars, even though Thule says it should...

My complete rack setup is now all done... BTW, What a PITA tracking all this crap down. The factory rack that comes stock on this car is a joke, and a good $500 needs to be added to it to make it useable...

First, I had the STC50034Gextension rails added, and then I had the LRN50100 crosss bars added. Finally, the LRN50145 ski rack.

LRN50145 6 pair ski carrier (discontinued)
CAN500030.(doesn't fit, even though parts DB says it does): http://lrparts.autowebaccessories.com/store/land-rover-range-rover-sport-ski-snowboard-carrier-prod499_14528.php

Anyhow, here's a few pics of the whole setup installed:

sna77,
How sturdy are the Rover cross bars? I've been thinking of getting some to mount my MegaWarrior rack directly to, instead of adding the extra height of the Yakima towers on the side rails. I don't carry a ton of weight up there, but more than just skis would weigh.
