Default Off-Road Season is officially opened!

Snow finally melted enough in Quebec to allow my buddies and I to do some (some of you will say it is light) off-roading on our property. There were still 2' in some spots and mud in others. We got stuck pretty bad and my brother cracked the frame on his Jeep but it was a great day!

Great picture.
May be open in your are, but our mountains got an additional 4 feet of snow on top of 80 to 140 old inches of snow pack.

" (some of you will say it is light)" Hey, mud on the tires is mud on the tires right? Point is you got off the pavement and had fun! Sorry to hear about the bro's Jeep, but your Rover looks like it got some good action.

I recently went out and tried out my new tires (Kumho Road Venture M/T's) and they did great until this happened... I was trying the right side when the whole front end slid left leaving me stuck! The driver's side front wheel wasn't even touching the ground and the back driver's side was totally dug in. Luckily in the south, within 30 mins someone with a truck and chain will be along hollerin' "You stuck?" soooooo, after some negotiating and after learning how to use only braided wire rope with no shackles (a chinese finger knot or some such) I was pulled free (BTW: he was in a chevy truck with street tires so it was a hair embarassing. I almost had to pull him out after I was dislodged!) Overall an important spring break lesson learned! Also, when being recovered is it better to jerk or pull evenly?

try to avoid jerking when being recovered especially if you are using steel cable... the best thing for being jerked out are the special ropes made for it that stretch and give you a more linear pull without the hard jerk or risk of breaking a cable... steel cable is a bad idea to jerk on... if it snaps it can easily break windows, arms, faces, or even kill you... find a fabrication shop or something near where you live where they work with cranes or forklifts and see if they have any old lifting straps or nylon slings (the kind with a loop on each end) OSHA says that once they begin to wear out they have to be thrown away, so normally if you ask they will either give you some of their old ones or sell them for pretty cheap...

Thanks for the comments. This was on Easter week-end. Last week-end we repaired my brother's Jeep and installed a 1.5 inch lift. The old leaf springs were so worn out it looks like the truck got a 3 inch lift!

XD your pics are really nice too!

I started at my new job a couple of weeks ago in a Chrysler dealership and my bosses are really into off-roading and I intend to participate to their off-road trips. So I think I will have a lot of pictures in the next couple of months. I also plan to do some other off-road days during the summer

I have an 04 Disco II with the 18" wheels. Does anyone know what the biggest tire you can run on those wheels is? I want a more agressive a/t type tire and was considering going a little larger/wider than the stock 255/55/18.
