Find a Land Rover club in your area.

Unfortunately Spike, there really aren't any in our area. But Sharp, if you're up for a drive I can show you around the NJ Pine Barrens. I usually go down to exit 70 or so on the NJ Parkway, not sure how far that is for you.

with all the tree huggers in NYC I can not imagine a legal public place to off-road in the entire state. I live in Georgia, one of the most redneck states there is, and the tree huggers have shut us down to one legal public OHV park consisting of about 7 miles.

Pine Barrens and Catskill mt State Park?? Sounds like a nice drive, I know where they are but have never been to either. I have never off roaded before, how do I know if the terrain I am on is within legal limits? Do I need a special permit to get to these places?

Most places are unfortunately legal, but the place I go in the Pine Barrens is all 100% legal (unless posted, it's obvious though). You don't need a permit or anything, it's all just "unmaintained state roads"
