Is there a dino 5w-40? Any 5w-40 is going to be predominately synthetic, maybe a blend.

I am going to try a lighter oil and see what happens. If it gets louder, then I will switch back
That is strange, maybe it is your oil filter? High Mileage oils that are made to stop engine noises and oil burning are just thicker oils with seal conditioners. When does your tapping happen? All the time or does it go away?

Mobil clean is a good oil. I would keep to 3000 mile OCIs in your disco though.

If you are going to use standard dino oil in the Rover make sure you change it every 3,000 miles.
