Default Oil Change

Hi Everybody,

For as long as I have owned my vehicle, I have changed the oil every 3000 miles. I have read numerous car articles that say otherwise, but I believe it is best for my car. Now, that my D2 is getting into older stages of life (160,000 miles) I realize that, being a Rover, it won't be completely trouble free in the future. Not by any means do I have the deepest pockets around to fix these future problems, so I was wondering if I could save a few cents changing it less often? Or is that bad for the car? Has anybody had any experience with changing the oil later, like 4000 miles? Thanks!

Okay what you can do is change it and then in 3k send it to the company to get a test done on it to see how much life it has in it. Sorry having a blank moment but one of the other guys will explain what i am trying to say!

Merry Christmas to you!

oil analysis. But for what it costs I think it's not worth it for what you're after

I'm assuming you've done the math and going 1000 miles longer will save enough. Changing every 4000 is fine for good oil and normal conditions.

I personally feel like I need to change the oil more with the more miles I put on my rovers, but that's because I leak enough oil I hate pouring close to a quart 300 miles before the 3000 miles change. Like antichrist said though 4000 miles is fine for good oil. The only thing is you can't forget to check your oil level regularly, and I only say that because I know people that don't check levels between oil changes.

Shell Rotella 5w-40, NAPA Gold oil filter, every 5,000 miles, done, move on, it will last as long as you want to keep it using that combo of oil and filter.
Thats what I do, just keep the oil full, check it once a week after it has sat all night and before every road trip.
Lifes to short to worry about motor oil and how often to change it.
Rover says every 7,500 miles.
