Default oil consumption and oil separator

my 03 disco seems to have started using more oil....about a quart/1000 miles
i can blow thru my oil separator but i was wanting to remove it anyway. mine has a brass looking cover over the top of the separator that i have tried to remove but haven't been able to yet. i was thinking it may be easier to just remove the whole tube out of the valve cover. does it just pull out? if i can blow thru the separator I wonder if it could be partially clogged and causing oily fumes to be pushed out the other valve cover vent....thereby causing consumption?

1qt every 1,000 miles is 100% normal for any engine.
The oil separator is what is inside the valve cover.
Oil Separator - Valve Cover (Part # LLJ000010) - Land Rover miscellaneous from Atlantic British
That goes inside the tube in the valve cover, it comes out of the tube with pliers.
Remove it, clean it with carb cleaner.
Put it back.

Really? Maybe any Land Rover engine. I've had cars with 150k miles and more that hardly lost any oil, definitely not a quart every 1,000 miles.

"Check the gas & fill up the oil!"

I have been told that the largest Ford dealer in Missouri has told customers that 1Qt/1000 miles on a brand new Ford vehicle is within tolerances.

My 2003 goes through a quart in about 1500 miles. Used to go through a quart every 1000 until i switched to Rotella 15w40.

When still under warantee the dealer always told me this was within their tolerances.

I've discussed it with my indy mechanic and he says some trucks do this and others never lose a drop.

I suspect I have the issue due to the dealer (under warantee) breaking in my brand new replacement engine with Castrol Synthetic 5w30.

I also have a lot of oil on the underside of my truck, so I don't believe it is all due to improperly seated rings... definitely it's leaking somewhere which I have not addressed yet... I just figure it's an extra bonus in that it's helping to keep away any rust or corrosion on the underside. :-\

It's killing my bushings. The driveway and street outside have gone from cute to just too much.

Yes guys, I am dead serious and please don't call me Shirley.

1qt every 1,000 miles is the standard for any car engine, new or otherwise.
I go through roughly 1qt every 2 weeks, does not matter how far I drive, thats what I use so most of it has to be leaking out.

saturn tried to tell me the engine could go through all the oil in one oil change.. thats like 6 quarts in 3k .when I did an "oil consumption test" they said. they checked it evry week and said yup its in the acceptable range and then topped it off. after the third time I realized I was getting taken to the cleaners. I traded in a saturn with 120k that used no oil, bought one with 30k that drank it like a thirsty sailor at a free bar!

I Dont believe it for a minute, I have had dam close to 50 vehicles in my lifetime and few used a anywhere near a quart in a 1000 miles unless it was pouring out.

Most have used about a 1/2 quart or so between oil changes that 3-4k miles, at your pace you would never have to change the oil, it is self changing.

Think about it, thats 3 quarts between oil changes (a 3k per change) why would you bother changing the 2 quarts left (5 quart system).

A new engine breakin will use oil and old engine with weak rings and blow-by will use oil, to say every engine new or old uses a quart per thousand miles come on.

One of my harley has a total waste oil system on it, you manually pump oil to the top end every 300 mile or so and the old drops to the ground as you drive, that doesnt even use 1 quart every thousand miles.
