Oil drops in coolant reservoir, was wondering if any one knows how to diagnose where this is coming from. Any help would be appreciated.

That does not sound good. Most likely a head gasket issue.
Edit: May be a minor leak because you said it was drops. Still not a good thing. I would get the system pressure tested to confirm.

 

as in the oil drops are suspended and floating in the coolant?

check your oil level next and look for white goo on the inside of the oil filler cap.

sounds like you could have a head gasket leak.

 

Check compression. Maybe check for exhaust gasses in the coolant too.

 

Yeah, HG. Sorry. There is a pressurised oil passage in the head where the oil is fed to the rockers. failing hg would allow that oil in to the coolant.

 

Could also be the front cover gasket. Just happened to me but in a more complete failure way.

 

My front cover gasket was the issue on mine, but it was coolant in the oil, not oil in the coolant.

 

What engine, gas or diesel?

 

thanks yeah theirs nothing unusual in the dipstick will get the head gasket checked however I drove it this morning and the gauges stopped working wipers stopped working and it didn’t sound like it was firing on all cylinders so is going to have to be towed.

 

nothing in the dipstick no. Would that still mean a head gasket. I’ve heated the oil cooler could be the issue as well.
