Default oil leak ??? save your driveway !!!

Guys, I had mentionned doing this a while ago, and have received quite a few pms asking me to post pictures. I took some and here is my way of fixing my minor oil leak ( Head gasket fixed now, but the set-up is still there just in case) prior to spending some $20 grand to get my driveway done in mega paver stones.

Just follow along and I'll post the pictures as I go.....

First, I got a regular aluminum square cooking pan and cut upone of the sections to clear the Discovery'soil pan (pictures ahead). There's a protection bar that goes accross the vehicle just behind the oil pan ( http://apu.mabul.org/up-mini/apu/200...547309ly2d.jpg) on which there are already little holes that I used as attachment points with self taping bolts(http://apu.mabul.org/up-mini/apu/200...549528lfnm.jpg). I used one sided sticking foam pad to locate the holes after positionning the pan exactly where I wanted it to go. Once in place, I just had to press hard on thepan so the holes in the bar would leave marks in the foam padding to show me where to drill holes for mounting( http://apu.mabul.org/up-mini/apu/200...55101nokqm.jpg). One can always try and mesure the holes distance, but they are not inline, but off-set with each other as you can see in the picture rendering it pretty puzzling.

Since the cooking plate is a bit flexible and I didn't want it to rattle, I used huge washers to assure that it would sit solid, and wouldn't rattle in the wind.
(http://apu.mabul.org/up-mini/apu/200...55337fm4yk.jpg) (http://apu.mabul.org/up-mini/apu/200...55429zb3uz.jpg) Ohya, I also used locking washers to assure that it wouldn't loosen up.

The rest is quite obvious, I dove under again and bolted it in place. You'll see that the bar sits at an angle, which is perfect because any oil leaking will naturally go down to the thicker part of the receptacle (http://apu.mabul.org/up-mini/apu/200...55801y56qy.jpg)

The set-up cannot be seen at all because it is sitting up high enough to be out of view. even when laying down on the ground.

So there you go..... Now this driveway can be and remain oil spot free (http://apu.mabul.org/up-mini/apu/200...60033l6tg8.jpg)

To some of you, this can seem like a joke (and that's kind of why I waited so long to share this info), but I like my Rover, and couldn't stand the thought of it'marking its territory' in my new driveway or anywhere else for that mather. So I built it a litter box. And just like one, you have to empty it or rather 'wipe it clean'from time to time depending on the importance of theleak.

The only downsides that I have found, is that it has to be removed to perform an oil change, but that's 2 bolts and its off, takes 30 seconds. Alsowhen driving in heavy rain, water will gather in the pan. But just a quick hit of the brakes will empty it right away. Should someone like muding, the mudwould most likely have to be hosed out or by hand.

Hopefully this little write-up ( if I can call it that way), will help some of you patch aproblem.

I guess driveway carpet isn't good enough, eh? You definitely get an A for creativity, that's great if it works. That's a nice driveway too, I don't blame you. I like the automatic emptying feature. It looks like too much work though, I think I'm just going to wrap my oil pan in diapers.
