Disco Mike, pragmatically speaking, you are right, they will avoid doing the right thing for this LR owner at any cost. So, going the independent route is the reasonable thing to do.

It just kills me to see a vehicle with less than 60 K miles on it, that has been maintained and it blows and engine due to a failure in quality control and mfg tooling setup at the LR factory.

Heck, emissions control systems are warranted for 80 K Miles but a main component like an oil pump is not.

This is not fair and I hope that the group starting a class action lawsuits succeeds with it.

suppose my problem inst exactly like this one but similar. drove the truck about 500 miles yesterday and it ran great, no problems. got in it this morning to warm it up and it started fine and sounded fine. when i came back to drive it off the carport the oil light was on and still it sounded fine. well after a couple times of tuning it off and on to see if the light would go out the engine started to run rough and the oil level is fine. sound like anything??? "2003 disco s" with 73000 miles

You have been warned, do not start the truck again, your oil pump is toast, and so will be your engine if you keep driving the truck.

Just remember that you have a moral and legal obligation to tell the buyer of the problem.

Can they replace the oil pump?

Short answer yes, as long as you did not destoy the engine by running it with the oil light on.
The problem will happen again.
There was a defect with the engine manufacturing and the block is defective and the only fi is a new non defective engine.
Replace the oil pump now and drive it until it happens again.

They towed it at 4pm MST. Should hear back in the morning if its fixable or not. Oh well since I heard of the oil pump failure a week after I bought it in Feb 08 I kind of thought this would happen.
