Default Oil Pressure 99 Disco

So from reading apparantly oil pressure is an issue. I have a 99 Disco 109k. Levels seem fine. Does anyone suggest getting a pressure test? Or will a light just come on and indicate a pressure issue? I have always driven Saabs and learned the better to take care of it before an issue than after approach.

Any advice would be great! I wanna keep this on the road as long as possible without spending a million dollars when I could have taken care of something in advance.

Besides oil pressure, gasket, randoms leaks are their any other big things that will kill the truck?

Get your front u-joints rebuilt with greaseable zerks ASAP and always use premium gas. Check "Mike's 60K maintenance sticky" at top of forum list and complete.

Enjoy and off road often.

The Disco oil pressure light is just an idiot light, it comes on when its too late.
You can fit an oil pressure gauge and keep an eye on it.
You need a M12 x 1.5 adapter which you can get at Gloshift for $3 http://www.glowshiftdirect.com/GlowS...-Adapters.aspx
plus a gauge from anywhere, HF have one for $20. You could also pay $$$ for one of those multi color gauges if that is your kinda thing.

10+ PSI at hot idle, up to 50PSI otherwise. There is a 50PSI pressure relief valve so your pressure should not go over that. My gauge reads about 55PSI but I think its just off, it does not drop below 20PSI but maybe that is actually 15PSI, still within safe limits.

There are a few write ups around, one under the How Tos at the top of this section.
They are simple animals to install, you need to tap into one of the oil ports on the front cover using the M12x1.5 adapter and then fit the oil pressure sensor.
You get mechanical and electrical gauges. Mechanical gauges use a long thin hose attached to the back of the gauge, there are no electrical connections (except for illuminating the gauge) but you do have that long thin hose that could leak. Electrical uses a pressure sensor sending unit and some electrical wires connected to the gauge.
